Peninsula Strikers kick of the 2007 season this week 21st April at home (Ballam Park) against Endeavour United, Reserves 1pm and 1sts 3pm. Come and support the boys at the new ground.

Frankston Strikers play Frankston Pines this Saturday 14/4 at Frankston Pines Res 1pm, 1sts 3pm

Last weekend both the firsts and the seconds had work out games against Dandenong Sparrows the first eleven had a very good win 7-0. The reserves also won 3-1.
The squad also played Berwick Kings the 1st eleven won 2-1 and the Reserves lost 2-1.
The team contained three 14 year players whom all showed good form and were not concerned about older opposition.
The Frankston Fillies played against Frankston Pines in the annual Bayside Fund Raiser Day for cancer research. It was a close game and both teams set the stage for the day’s event. A late gaol to Pines saw them win the charity shield.
The McClelland Drive ground will definitely be unavailable for football this season when it starts. The ground has been deemed unplayable and closed for major or works by the council. This means that the club will be relocated for the season and there is a strong possibility that football will return to Ballam Park playing on the reconstructed ground now used by the Long Island Cricket Club.
The club is awaiting a final answer on this from the council.
The VFF season is now due to start on the 21st April but please keep up to date with this on our website. Meanwhile the Bayside League is still hoping to start on the 15th April.
I just looked on the FFV Website and it seems that the fixtures are exactly the same except that they have put Round 1 on the 11th June (Queen’s Birthday Holiday), so the league will start off from Round 2.

The club have manage to play two practice games in difficult conditions to say the least. The first game against Dandenong Thunder with many potential first team players unable to make the kick off time due to the game being played on the other side of Melbourne at Preston.
The result of the game was a loss for us.
In order to get a team bonding, Coach George Hughes arranged a game and a weekend away at country Shepparton. Everybody enjoyed the time away and the result proved also good for us winning an entertaining game.
Over the past few months talks have been going on between Peninsula Junior Football Club over a joint venture, this would benefit both clubs. At this point in time both clubs will have extraordinary meetings to pass the merger. Already the name of the club has been discussed as also Club colours and more will be revealed at a future date.

As yet no fixtures have been released, when they do get released I will put them on the website.

The drought is still with us however the VFF have given our league a starting date of April 14th for the first competition games of season 2007.
Again this is all subject to ground situations. Some encouraging news for the club from Frankston City Council is that they are going to sow our ground with a summer seed which will be drought tolerant this will be happening possibly next week.
The Council will then have to get permission to water the ground in order to bring it back to a playing situation.
While all this has been happening the squad under George Hughes and Doug Chisholm had been training at the synthetic service at the Monash Campus in Frankston and have been varying the second nights training sometimes at the gym beach or wherever a suitable venue can be found. George reports the squad is coming together but due to the uncertainty of the start to the season players have not yet been signed.
The club has finished the renovations to the toilets bringing them up to 100% condition. A working bee will be held to carry out necessary jobs around the club house and to the dressing rooms.
The Frankston Fillies have started to train on Mondays and Wednesdays and it is encouraging to see all of last years team return and several new faces have also attended training. It is anticipated that the clubs men’s Sunday team The Outlaws will shortly start training. Will we or won't we?

That is the big question that is effecting all winter sport at the moment.
The drought has really hit all sporting grounds no watering is allowed, and as a result all grounds including ours are looking very dry and hay coloured.
Frankston council will obviously have to make a decision probably like every other council in the Metropolitan Area as to whether any matches will be played when the season starts.
Despite this training begins this week and new players are welcome to attend.

Joe Donaghy Jr is off to Malaysia this week the club would like to wish both him and the other Victorian under 16's all the very best in their tournament.
Ashley Hupe will also be off soon for goal keeping trials for Werder Bremen in Germany and Plymouth Argyle in the UK, again we wish him all the best.
Frankston Fillies need more girl soccer players for the adult Sunday competition if all goes well the club will field two teams this coming season.

At Strikers first committee meeting of the new committee, everybody was very positive about our chances for next season,
A few months ago two of our club room toilets were completely refurbished and early in the new year the remaining two will also be completed.
This will make them more brighter.
Training for senior players will start on December 12th, the drought is so bad that Frankston Council have advised the club that we can not use our ground until February 1st for our seniors and March 1st Juniors.
The club is working in liaison with the council over other grounds that we might use.
Billy Rae assistant coach has taken the coaching position at Seaford and leaves with the clubs blessing. We wish him all the best in his new position and hope that he can lift Seaford out of their present troubles.

Lewis Potter star recruit of Frankston Strikers two seasons ago, is hitting the headlines in the Midland Floodlight League in the UK, but it hasn't stopped him hitting the clubs website seeing the news on Joe Donaghy's junior selection for Victoria. He generously arranged for a donation to be forwarded to the Club for Wee Joe.
Lewis would be welcomed back to the club anytime he wishes to return to his family in Australia from the UK.

SEASON 2006 IN RETROSPECT

It was another nail bitting season for all concerned with the Strikers Billy McCarthur and Billy Rae were appointed club coaches for season 2006 but a lack of quality players had both coaches working overtime in getting the most out of the available players. The club had lost first time players on overseas trips and Robbie Currie had had to have a knee reconstruction putting him out for the season. The World Cup also cost the club players who could not miss the opportunity to watch the Aussies in action in Germany. So we missed these boys for nearly a month.
The coaches tried many younger players in the first eleven, but unfortunately favourable results did not eventuate, both teams languished either near or at the bottom as in the reserves case of the leagues. In an unprecedented decision by the club committee it was decided to replace senior coach Billy McCarthur with George Hughes. Billy had possibly done all that he could with the player available however he failed to sign ant new players to help the club cause and it was decided a new face at the helm was needed. George Hughes immediately realised some new blood was required. He used his hot line and five or six players were signed The introduction of these new players lifted the team and valuable points began to be picked up. We lifted ourselves above our fellow cellar dwellers Nunawading and Monbulk giving us breathing space.
The teams virtually stayed in the same positions to the end of the season and despite ourselves loosing the last two matches we held on to our position in State League S/E 3.
Strikers have now gone through two tempestuous seasons trying to keep in the league.
The 2007 season will I believe see a turn around in the clubs fortunes and if all goes well could see us pushing for promotion. We are a proud club the last few years have been hard our teams of yester-years have gone teams that saw us attain first division status under coach Russell Black.
But all the ambition of the club has not disappeared and the day will come again when clubs will fear playing Frankston Strikers.

The club held it's A.G.M. on October 1st and although the turn out was as usual poor, we managed to get a full committee. Those who bothered to turn up heard that the Frankston Strikers Soccer Club, thanks to a lot of hard work by the usual suspects, was in a very healthy position and was ready for the up coming campaign.
2007 is going to be bigger than ever, the whole club will need to pull together in order to achieve our goals. Remember this "Nothing worth it is ever easy". So I say again "Ask not what your club can do for you, ask what you can do for your club".
May be people think that because Strikers is such a good club to be part of that may be we don't need any help, WRONG! Our club is this good thanks to a small band of people that are always there. Those people will not be there for ever and they need help now more than ever. Keep an eye on this site over the coming months for all of the news about the club and how YOU can help.

In the last game of the season Strikers lost 2-0 to Nunawading City and the Reserves lost 4-1.

It is with regret that we announce the passing of Ron Kirkpatrick a past President of Karingal United.
He passed away on the 1st of September at Frankston Hospital aged 82 years. Our sympathies to his family.

Well what can we say, this was our worst ever result 7-0 the next worst result was in R16 2004 we lost to Diamond Valley 6-0 and before that R8 2002 we lost to Stonnington 6-0.
Getting back to the game you hate saying that officials can influence a game but in this case they may have with many curious decisions, lots of cards, two send offs and a couple of off side goals, not taking anything away from Endeavour they were great ball players and showed there class against a 10 man team for most of the game and nine in the last few minutes.
It seemed we lacked shots on goals and were caught out in defence on numerous occassions with no midfield support..
This is a game I'm sure we would like to forget.
One highlight for the day was a 4-2 win for our Reserve Team.
Next week we play our last game of the season away against Nunawading City.
After the game the players will be returning to the clubrooms to run through the 3 and 2 votes for the Best & Fairest. All supporters are welcome to attend.

FROM THE PRESIDENTS CHAIR
It turned out to be a red letter weekend for us last week.
Waiting on the results until Sunday night of our fellow cellar dweller opponents made this president a very nervous person NUNAWADING was the first card to fall over and to NORTH CAULFIED playing on Sunday MONBULK’S result was long awaited but the second card fell ensuring we could not be over taken and therefore we will line up in State League 3 next season.
This season has followed in the same manner as last year we might call it a very eventful season. However I firmly believe it has made our club stronger and next season we shall see a different STRIKERS take the field.
Congratulations to our coaching staff and both squads of players for making this possible. The only down side to last weeks match was an injury to ASH HUPE who during a collision in the game with a MORWELL forward hurt his leg so much so he is now in plaster and will not see anymore games this year. Our visitors today for this last home match are ENDEAVOUR we welcome them to our club. This is our last programme for season 2006 and without several people behind the scenes you would not be reading this now.
My thanks go to NANCY HALL for typing my so called words of wisdom. To TERRY ALLSOPP, who collates the programme and keeps us up to date with fixtures, and the current table. Finally to GRAHAM BAULK who translates everything in to print. Thank you all for your time.

With Monbulk losing against Nth Caulfield today it guarantees us that the Strikers will be ramaining in the South East Division 3 next season, which is a great result for the club.
Disappointing today to see Ashley Hup in plaster after an incident in the first half of the game, the doctors don't think it is broken but their could be ligament damage, we wish him a speedy recovery.

Strikers defeated Morwell Pegasus 1-0 is in tightly contested game.
We started the game under new stand in coach Willy Raines and within the first ten minutes we had scored our first goal, through a great move and a great finish by Michael Moore. We kept on attacking but just couldn't score again, some great work was seen down the left by Daniel Hodge who didn't stop running all day and Joey and Kris in the middle also. So the score at half time was 1-0.
Morwell came out in the second half much more fired up and kept attacking for most of the half, we had some great chances with some good moves and crosses by Jamie Vrybergen, Kris Patterson and Michael Moore who looked dangerous all day. The defence led by Alex Rae, Ryan Lee, Steve Dillon and Craig Wright where rock solid as too was Ashley Hupe in goal who kept many chances out.
Overall a very pleasing result for the club.
A good result for us was the loss to Nunawading City and if Monbulk lose tomorrow we will be safe from the relegation zone.

FROM THE PRESIDENTS CHAIR

The importance and significance of last Saturday’s victory at MOOROOLBARK soon became evident when scores from other games filtered through in the evening. MONBULK had drawn away at ENDEAVOUR whilst more importantly NUNAWADING had upset SANDRINGHAM’S applecart by beating them 1-0.

STRIKERS and the two other cellar dwellers are all attempting to escape the drop into PROVISIONAL LEAGUE and it would appear like ourselves that the other two are making every effort they can to avoid this and who can blame them? Each club has now three games to play, MONBULK having lost their catch up game to HEATHERTON at home 3-0.
Today we welcome MORWELL and trust that their long journey will not be the last they will make to McClelland Drive.

Due to commitments with the RANGERS SUPPORTER’S CLUB coach GEORGE HUGHES has had to take a flight to Scotland and will therefore not be coaching STRIKERS. Luckily for the club WILLY RAYNES who graced our team a few years ago has stepped in to assist BILLY RAE and his professional approach will be a big asset over the coming weeks.
I had to wrap myself over my knuckles for not mentioning our RESERVE side, they have in recent weeks regained their confidence and have strung together a series of good performances.

Just a reminder that next week we are again playing at home. Our last home fixture for the season against ENDEAVOUR.

SOCCER SNIPPETS

The club has lost the services of MARCUS BROWNLIE for the rest of the season the youngster has departed OZ to see the other side of the world hopefully he will be back in our colours next season.
He returned to the club at the beginning of the season and since then SERGE has become not only a regular reserve player but a great sponsor for the club. The Thursday night training sessions would not be complete without DOMINO PIZZAS and SERGE has taken it on his self to provide these.

Under new fun coach Billy Rae for the week due to George Hughes being overseas. Strikers played 5th spot Mooroolbark away and came away with a much deserved 1-0 win, thanks to a Gabriele Alonzo goal, just before half time. In a tight second half we managed to hold on to the win. One disappointment was an injury to Garry Hughes
Well done boys, it now puts us 4 points clear of Monbulk who drew 2-2 with Endeavour United and 5 points clear of Nunawading City who we play in the last game of the season.

The Strikers took on Fitzroy City on the weekend who sat 2 positions above us on the table with 20 points. The first half was all one way traffic with Fitzroy scoring 2 goals within 20 minutes of the game starting. We just didn't have a reply, we did have to great chances though 1 hit the post and the other just trickled past the post.. Fitzroy scored their 3rd with seconds to go before half time. The 3-0 scoreline could have been much more but Ashley Hupe kept the ball out on many occassions.
The second half was a different story though with a change at the back seeing Ryan Lee enter the game, it seemed to change the game for the Strikers, with us having many attacks at the Fitroy goals. A good ball from Alex Rae to Frank Alesio to Micky Moore who put the ball in the back off the net and then minutes later a solo effort at a tight angle saw Micky score his second.
Overall a great second half for the boys, they just have to play like it for the entire game.
Unfortunately for the Strikers though Monbulk beat 4th spot Moorolbark 2-0 to put them 2 points behind us with a game in had against Heatherton to be played next week.
Next week they have a bye and the following week we are away to Mooroolbark.

There were dramas before the game even began when coach George Hughes had a car accident on the way to the ground. He has a very nasty cut at the back of his head, his car a right off but he still had time to ring Alex Rae to tell him he couldn't make it to the game before the ambulance took him to hospital. From all reports he is doing well. Hope you have a speedy recovery George, from all Strikers.
Despite this drama for the first time this year, the Firsts and Reserves have won on the same day. This feat has not been achieved since Round 2 last year when both teams won against Clayton. In a hard fought game the Firsts came up against Monbulk in which we knew was going to be a hard bottom of the table clash, in an up and down game with both teams having many chances to score, we managed to put one away within the first 30 minutes from Frank Alesio. Unfortunately Gary Hughes was sent off again, so we had to play most of the game with 10 players. But we held on to win the game 1-0. The Reserves also had a tight game winning 2-1 with Stephen Curd and Didier Tshilombo scoring the goals. Well done boys!

We started the game in high spirits despite having to rearrange the squad due to suspensions. Ryan Lee, Frank Aleseo, Jamie Lee-Vanbergen and Marcus Brownlie all started in defence, which we defended well until 5 seconds to the end of the first half when Sandringham scored there first goal, so it was 1-0 to Sandringham at the break. The second half was all Sandy with our defence very vunerable, they scored there second half way through the second half and then again straight from the retake 5 to 10 seconds later. We had a couple of good chances, one even being cleared off the line, but we just couldn't put the ball away. The score finished with a 3-0 loss.
On the brighter side the Reserves won there first game for the season with 2 goals from Colin Hanna, well done boys.

Strikers traveled to Berwick but unfortunately lost 4-1. It was a disappointing game for the Strikers with Alex Ray and Gary Hughes both being sent off for a second Yellow, infact 11 Yellow cards were given in a very friendly game. We had a couple of chances but couldn't put the ball away. The goal coming from a good move from Ryan Lee to Kris Patterson who put the ball in the back of the net. The Reserves were also defeated 3-0

SOCCER SNIPPETS
GRAEME WRIGHT is continuing to make progress from his injuries sustained in a car crash, it does look however that the soccer season 2006 is over for this young player. While on injuries I phoned the TEMPLETOWE president on behalf of our club asking the progress of their player who broke his leg in the last home match. The unfortunate player who was given a yellow card while on the ground some say should have been a red had a pin inserted in his leg on the Monday of that week. His leg had been broken in three places which could mean no more soccer for him. Prior to the transfer deadline we signed mid fielder ISBU BAKER from DANDY THUNDER he has been playing under a slight injury cloud but BILLY RAE assures me he will be a big asset to the squad when fully fit. As regards the TEMPLESTOWE game the club was advised to put in a protest, to the VIC FOOTBALL ASSC in case the game should be replayed The time discrepancy being the outstanding factor. Just how many playing minutes were played bearing in mind, injuries time wasting, player changes all having an influence on the time. Normally this would be added on after the 90 minutes obviously some clarification needs to be given

Final W orld Cup 2006 Results

Under new coach Stan Webster for the day, the boys nearly went 1 ni downl in the first minute of the game Templestowe should have scored but good defending kept the ball out of the net. The Strikers did have their chance in the first half, when a player was pulled down in the box, but a penalty kick taken by Steve Keenan was saved by the Templestowe goal keeper. New signings Kris Patterson and Isbu Baker tried hard but couldn't put the ball in the net. Templestowe kept on pushing though and got one goal through a chip over goal keeper Ashley Hupe's head and then just 5 minutes later a cross came from the right and was headed in by an unmarked player at the back post. So the score was 2-0 at half time.
Both teams came out strong in the second half and had many chances, but about 20 minutes into the second half a strong fair takle on a Templestowe player resulted in the player breaking his leg. An ambulance was called and unfortunately the referee had no choice but to abandon the game, which will possibly be played later on in the year in the catch up round, if Football Federation deems the game to be not played in full. (More information to follow, when known) (With some discrepancy with the team sheets, one doubts the game will be replayed)

In a hard fought game against Heatherton United, the Strikers went 1 up within the first 20 minutes after a great goal by Joe Donaghy Jnr, Steve Keenan put us 2 nil up 10 minutes later, with a header from a Donaghy corner. Heatherton scored a goal and a penalty was given which Ashley Hupe saved (must be the week for saving penalties), so the score was 2-1 at half time. Heatherton came out firing and an impressive goal by the Heatherton Striker put the score at 2-2. Both sides had lots of great chances to win it but unfortunately for us it was Heatherton who scored the winner.
The Reserves though finally got a point with a 1-1 draw, unfortunately for them they hold a Club record for the most loses in a season (12).
It seems we have turned a corner under new coach Hughes and with new signings Greg Kilner from Langy, the return of Kris Patterson from the Pines and Dandenong Thunder's Isbu Baker.
Next week with the absence of George Hughes, former Pines coach Stan Webster will take over the raines for the week against Templestowe Eagles.

After a hard fought first half with both teams having many chances, the score was 1-1 at half time. North Caulfield scored the first not before Joey Jnr had a cracking shot at goal that hit the woodwork and some great saves from Ashley in goal. We scored the equaliser through a foul in the goal mouth on new signing Frank Alisio from Frankston Pines, Stevie Keenan stepped up to take the kick and firmly slotted it into the right hand side corner. 1-1 at half time was a very deserving result.
North Caulfield in the second half came out firing and they got their second after a mix up in the goal mouth, we kept on fighting though and got the equaliser from Micky Moore late in the game. Ryan Lee came on late in the second half also and tried hard. The defense worked hard all day let by Steve, Alex, Jamie and Gary. A great result for the boys in a very hard fought game.

Something tells me however that the boys will have to play every game with the same intensity of courage and with that never say die attitude to get more points to ensure our safety. A quick mention on our young reserve side surely on recent performances they can not be far away from getting their first points.
JAMIE STEWART and STEVE KEENAN have stamped their authority in the games they have played since rejoining the club. As a result all the other players have lifted their games to match their attitude all very positive. You will see from soccer snippets that GEORGE and the club are doing all we can to strengthen the playing squad to give us more depth making us more competitive. So to today’s game and the visit of high flying NORTH CAULFIELD in both seniors and reserves, we would like to welcome all connected with their club to McClelland Drive.

Today Fraser Cameron plays his 50th Reserve Team Game, only 22 other reserve team player have played more than 50 games out of 208 reserve players overall, while 25 first team players out of 162 players overall have played more than 50 games.

SOCCER SNIPPETS
It was good to see last years club captain ROBBIE CURRIE (out for this season after a knee reconstruction) helping out on the gate last week like wise reserves Best and Fairest from last year TERRY BINYON (a broken ankle has kept him out so far this season) running the line in the reserve match. This is the much needed spirit the club needs GRAEME WRIGHT also looks to be out for the rest of the season having broken his leg and sustained other injuries in a car accident, we wish him well in his recovery. KEVIN JONES is also on the injured list but we do not know how long he is out for. MARCUS BROWNLIE whom returned to the club a few weeks ago hopes to be in action today after missing last weeks game with an ankle injury. Several players are overseas watching the World Cup JOSH LEGGETT and the CURDY BROTHERS.A new signing from LANGWARRIN is also unavailable for the same reason GREG KILNER so long a goal scorer for our neighbours LANGWARRIN will be playing for us on his return. Also in the pipe line a signing from PINES.A reminder to you all that the Legends Room will again be open today PHIL DOBBIN continues to acquire new material to display. If anybody has anything for display please see PHIL.

With 10th place Nunawading City playing last place Strikers we all new it would be a tough game, with a new look line up with Alex Rae playing left back, Jamie Stewart and Steve Dillon in the middle and Michael Moore on the right who played well all day we held Nunawading scoreless in the first half, with lots of good play in the middle by Steve Keenan, Steve Wright and Gary Hughes and up front by Ryan Lee, Gabrielle Alonzo, and Joe Donaghy Jnr supporting, but we just couldn't score. Nunawading City did have a couple of good chances to score though, one where the player forgot to take the ball with him, and some good saves by Ashley Hupe kept the score line at nil nil at half time.

The second half saw both sides come out strong, but it was Ryan Lee who scored our goal 11 minutes into the second half, we had some great chances to score more, so too Nunawading but we both just couldn't. Jamie Lee-Vrybergen came on late in the second half but couldn't add to the scoreline. So the score line in the end was 1-0 to us an excellent win for the boys which now takes us off the bottom spot and put us in 10th spot.

The Reserves on the other hand played some great football but just could put the ball in the back of the net losing 1-0, in a game that we probably should have won.

High expectations of the boys after last weeks draw against Morwell, although Heatherton sitting 2nd were far to strong with a 3-0 win. The Reserves played much better this week only losing 1-0

Under new coach George Hughes, the Strikers travelled down to Morwell, for what was expected to be a tough game, and by the result it was. We managed to come away with a much needed draw with Craig Wright scoring our goal. We are still sitting bottom but with a few more results going our way, hopefully we can start our move out of the relegation zone.

Another disappointing result for the Strikers, going down 4-1 to Mooroolbark.
The first half saw Mooroolbark score an early goal through a defensive error, not long later though a scramble in the goal mouth saw Alex Rae score the equalizer. Although Mooroolbark had most of the play they just couldn't score so we went in 1-1 at half time.
We came out all blazing in the second half, with two chances early on that should have been converted but weren't, which proved to be the end of the Strikers with Mooroolbark scoring three quick goals, one of which was a dubious penalty which Ashley Hupe saved but was followed up and slotted into the net, it could have been more but some good saves by Ashley Hupe stopped them from scoring.

A disappointing result against Fitzroy City, a 3-0 loss, we tried hard but couldn't put the ball in the back of the net, The result was disappointing after the team in the past few weeks has shown lots of promise. A few new, but old faces (Stevie Keenan, Jamie Stewart, Kris Patterson) at training over the week, so hopefully they will sign on and booster our young squad. This week the boys are up against 7th spot Mooroolbark at home, get along and support the boys. Reserves 1pm, First XI 3pm.

Hard Work Pays Off
Perseverance paid off for the Frankston Strikers on Saturday when they broke through for their first win of the season in State League 3SE.
Second half goals by Craig Wright (55th minute) and Kevin Jones (58th minute) clinched a thrilling 2-1 win over Monbulk at Centenary Park - and sparked jubilant scenes.
"This is the first time this season we've sung the club song and we were quite vocal. We were very happy," coach Billy McArthur said.
"I'm very happy for the boys the way they fought. It was pleasing for them that we finally won a game. We've been working hard at training and in games without much success."
Outstanding players were Fraser Cameron, Steve White, Gary Hughes and Alex Rae.
McArthur said it was an "expected" win after the Strikers came-from-behind to draw 3-3 with ladder-leader Sandringham City the previous week.

FROM THE PRESIDENTS CHAIR
Today we welcome BERWICK CITY to McClelland Drive, a decade or so ago they paid regular visits to our ground whilst in the VFF. They then joined the BAYSIDE LEAGUE also playing at times. A return to the provisional league has seen them progress through the passed years back into the State League and sees them playing us today.
We hope all their official’s supporters and players enjoy their visit today.
I was pleasantly surprised to get a feed back on the first match day programme against HEATHERTON. A fourth right comment I had made was chewed over by a few old players I must stress that the committee leave me to write the programme so they are strictly my thoughts on things. Anyway to provoke comment means people talking about the round ball game, and whether they agree or disagree with what is written proves that people have opinions and that is what the game is all about.
You would have notice that renovations have been taking place in the club rooms to be more exact two of our toilets have been painted out and tiled. I would like to thank both EUGINE KENNEDY and CLAYTON LEE for all their hard work.
EUGINE used his leave to work in the club, which is indicative of the type of club men and woman we have at STRIKERS.
The finishing touches will be completed by JACK ELSWORTH and TERRY ALLSOP again a big thank you.
We look back on the start to last season when we found ourselves at the top of the table and those early points virtually proved to be our savour for the season looking at the table today we find ourselves at the bottom and I know that both coaches and players alike realise we have a lot of work to do to get out of this predicament.
The club is grateful to all the sponsors who have signed with the club for another season. I can only stress that if you do visit or use a sponsors please mention the STRIKER name it makes it a lot easier when we see them next year.
AJENDA PRASAD who plays in out Sunday side the OUTLAWS is helping to sponsor our junior section for season 2006. What can only be described as a blunder by the VFF finds both our good friends at LANGY and our selves playing at home at the same time I know many people follow both clubs and this can only hurt the finances of both clubs I am pleased to say that the clubs relationship with the local council has greatly improved so much so that our grandstand and seating were given a new coat of paint over the summer.

CLUB LEGENDS ROOM
The domain of PHIL DOBBIN who opens the room each home match for you to peruse, should you have any material relating to SKYE/FRANKSTON, KARINGAL and STRIKERS please see TONY HALL. It is good to see you looking at the room bringing back old memories perhaps. PHIL continually changes the material always keeping it fresh plans are afoot to renovate the room in the near future.

CLUB SNIPPETS
Latest club signing is DIDIER T. DIDIER has an unpronounceable surname so best we keep it to “ T ”. DIDIER was due to line up last week but could not get transport to Templestowe. Another young lad was signed JOSH SNOW have registered and paid his registration fee. The lad took a sudden about turn these two cases do nothing to help our present situation. Some good news an ex junior of the club has signed for Scottish club HEARTS. MATT PARK is at present cleaning his boots whilst playing for their under 19 squad. He is a determined lad and hopes to go the whole way.

The Strikers played well against Templestowe Eagles on Saturday. With a tight first half seeing no teams able to score. The second half was very different though with the Strikers scoring the first goal from Tom Balogh, but 3 quick goals by Templestowe took the game out of the Strikers control and a late goal sealed our fate.

Saturday saw the STRIKERS play their first home game for the 2006 season, we came up against Heatherton United coming off a 4-1 win against Nunawading City, they showed their class early with 3 goals in the first half, against the wind. TOM BALOGH and JOE DONAGHY Jnr tried hard up front but just didn't get the support from the midfield. The second half was much even, CRAIG WRIGHT tried hard to rouse the midfield but a defensive error cost us a 4th goal. We did have some consolation late in the game with a scrap in the goal mouth resulting in a goal by STEVE WHITE. Despite the scoreline our defence led by ALEC RAE and KEVIN JONES played well, with ASHLEY HUPE stopping many onslaughts at the goal with a score line that could have been worse.
The Reserves played well but went down 3-0 DAMIAN BRADBURY playing sweeper had a good game directing play on the field.

A trip to Caulfield last Sunday saw the opening of our 2006 season, unfortunately though the result did not go our way with us losing 2-0. Some strong performances though from up and coming players, but a lack of scoring power cost us. The Reserves on the other hand were truly beaten 7-0.
Next week we have our first hame game against Heatherton United (Reserves 1pm, Firsts 3pm)

Soccer report 4/3/2006

After a nail bitting finish to season 2005 STRIKERS look as if they are going to be in a similar position this year unless new players arrive at the club.
Despite continued efforts to gain first team players it is simply not working.
Over recent weeks the first team squad have played several warm up matches for the coming season. In the first game we lost 3-0 to EASTERN LIONS then in a mid-week fixture we beat LANGWARRIN RESERVES 2-1. The following Saturday a very strong CRANBOURNE side visited McClelland Drive and when the heavens opened making soccer in possible we were losing 5-0.
In another mid week game we played an under 21 BENTLEIGH GREENS team winning 5-2.
The new coaches are putting in a lot of time with the players but there is a definite lack of quality in the squad.
Of last years team ALEX RAE and CRAIG WRIGHT have become the two leaders of the side. ASH HUPE our young goal keeper is still involved in cricket but showed all his skills when he played against BENTLEIGH GREENS.
The club needs at least five first team players so if you think you have a necessary talent please attend training on Tuesdays and Thursday at 6:30pm.
STRIKER’S is hoping to put out a ladies team in the BAYSIDE LEAGUE training is on a Wednesday evening at 7:00pm with our coach STEVE DARVILLE.
Our under 7 8 & 12 start training at 6:00pm on Wednesday 8th .

Strikers will be playing Langwarrin this Tuesday (22nd Feb) @ Strikers, 6:30pm kick-off.
Strikers will also be playing Cranbourne on Saturday (26th Feb) @ Strikers, 3:00pm kick-off.

Strikers have a practice game this weekend (11th Feb) against Eastern Lions kick-off is 2pm come along and check out if there are any new faces on the park and to catch up with old friends. (Lost 3-0)

Some sad news with the passing of Garry (Skulls) Buick last week sympathy to his family and many friends.

New coach Billy McCarthur started traning on May 10th with Billy Rae being appointed assistant coach both are determined to revitalise this once great club. New players are welcome to attend training on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 pm at Mclelland Drive
Paul field is once again the clubs trainer

The club is looking for girl soccer player 16 years and upwards in order to form a new team for 2006.

The junior section needs under 7's, 8's and 12's boys and girls for this season, cut off point for their age group is Deceber 31st.
( Example any boy or girl is eligible to play under 7 level if they are 6 or under on the 31st December)

Former National League coach Bill McArthur has been appointed coach of Franston Strikers Soccer Club. McArthur boasts top-notch credentials and Strikers officials are delighted to snare him.
He coached Melbourne Croatia in the National League and Albion Rovers in the Premier League. In recent years, he's been coaching in San Fransisco.
McArthur is also involved in junior coaching.
"He's very interested in the youth in the area," Frankston Strikers spokesman Colin Mitchell said.
"Everywhere he's been he's won something. He's got a fantastice resume."
