2008 Division 2 South East Fixture Just Released. Click Here
It seems to be common place at Strikers to have completely
different squads each season and this year will prove no exception for
our senior eleven.
We will introduce our new players soon of our old players Matt Minor
and Garry Hughes are both overseas while 3 players have retired Alex
Rae Steve Keenan and Jamie Skelly the latter having taken the reserve
eleven coaching position at Langwarrin. Perhaps the biggest loss is
that of Simon O’Donnell who has returned to Langwarrin taking
with him Leigh Wilkinson who wants to try his luck at higher level football.
Mickey Moore looks to be heading to Seaford so as you can see a big
recruitment drive will be needed.
Last weekend our first eleven played a friendly at Warragal winning
2-0 over the coming weeks we will be playing in a tournament at Springvale
White Eagles venue

Strikers last week played a friendly against Pines and showed some good
promise. We went down 3-1 with Murat scoring the goal.

The recent AGM that the Strikers produced some nice surprises for the
attendance the club financially is back on track after three years of
hard work. The promotion to Division 2 was a topic of conversation and
had many people saying could it be a back to back.
Tony Hall long time President has retired from his position stating
it was a job for a younger person now He was however persuaded to hold
a place on the general committee. Colin Mitchell was elected as the
new President with Tommy (Snappy Tom) Wright as Vice President. Trudi
Hay is the new Secretary, Damien Bradbury stepping down due to family
commitments but once again took a minor role on the committee.
Steve Murtagh and Clayton Lee again put their hands up for continuing
their club roles while Bruce Mitchell and Darren Lee replaced Ann McFarlane
and Graham Watson on the committee Bernie Greenman and Mark Mills also
stood again for committee, all were thanked for offering their services
to the club.
Laurence Hall will continue to run the clubs excellent Website.
Player News
Of last seasons squad three have decided to retire
Alex Rae Steve Keenan and Jamie Skelly the latter taking on a coaching
role at Langwarrin. Garry Hughes and Matt Minor are overseas and will
possibly miss most of the season. Robbie Curry also looks set to be
changing his job and his new position could side line him from playing
for the club.
Any future players reading this is welcome to attend training starting
next week.

A coment from a past player.
Is great to see the club doing so well. As a former player I am honored
and privileged to see my name up there on your site with the likes of
Russel Black and Craig Lewis. Players that as a 16 year old at the time
in the Reserve team I admired and molded myself on. I went on to play
for Bentliegh Greens and moved to the Gold Coast and Played in their
Premier League for a number of years. I also Played In Romania, the
USA, Qatar and Norway and have wondered how the Strikers are going.
I now live in the US and an a college coach as well as the State Director
of Youth Development. At 27 I would love to make a trip back to Frankston
and Play just one more game for the Green and Gold!!!
I wish the Club, its admin, supporters and of course players all the
best. I will keep an eye on your site.

A Word from Past President John Washington
Frankston Strikers are League Champions
We'll what was billed as a title game didn't dissapoint.
We could have gone one nil up within the first minute of the game but
a shot from close in from Murat hit the outside of the post. This was
to be the story of the game with numerous Strikers players missing some
good chances. We continued to push the Nunawading defence but just could
score. 0-0 at half time.
The second half was very interesting to say the least with a bad tackle
on Jamie Skelly resulting in him retaliating and being sent off, so
too Luke Ventieri for the same incident, so too George Hughes, leaving
Doug Chisolm in charge, as you may well believe our loyal fans who came
along to the game didn't like this, so continued to chant and boost
our player. Soon after this incident the referee pulled a hammy which
resulted in one of the linesman having to take the whistle. Soon after
this happened we attacked the goal and in a high cross into the box
a Striker Player headed the ball into the net. As you may well guess
or supporters went wild only to have the linesman disallow the goal
even after the referee who was in a much better position had allowed
it. Constant attacks caused serious pressure on our defence and Marcus
Brownlie was forced from the ground due to injury, this bought the 100
gamer Steve Keenan to the pitch with huge cheers from the crowd. The
boys didn't give up and with constant support from the crowd we continued
to pepper the Nunawading goals. We boosted the squad with Gary Hughes
who played his first game since Round 8 and Matt Pearce, with Leigh
Wilkinson and Micky Moore leaving the field to huge applause from the
crowd.. It was the ever reliable 100th gamer Steve Keenan with probably
his last kick for the club who set the fans alight with a much needed
goal from the back post. (This was surely Steve's Fairy Tale ending).
He was swarmed from all players who piled on top of him with excitement.
Soon after though John Jovan received a second yellow resulting in another
red carded player. We finished the game with 8 players and an assistant
coach. But it was the fabulous Strikers who won the game to prove that
they where the best team in the league. A jubilant squad and supporters
rushed on the the ground to celebrate the Division 3 South East Champions.
Emotions where running high with President Tony Hall presenting Steve
Keenan with his 100th game plaque and once the players left the field
to the clubrooms, as many supporters poured into the change rooms to
continue the celebrations. Eugene Kennedy addressed the side, with players
and supporters singing the club song on numerous occasions.
Congratulations to all players, supporters and committee members who
have produced an excellent year for all, lets hope we can keep the entire
squad for next season in South Eastern Division 2.
Congratulations must also go to Alex Rae and Steve Keenan who both probably
played their last game for the club. Thankyou to both of these players
for all your hard work over the years.

Congratulations must also go to Frankston Pines who
like us gained promotion, back up to the Foxtel Cup and who also finsihed
on top of their ladder. Langwarrin finished 5th, Casey Comets finsihed
10th.
Despite Seaford drawing today they finished second bottom and as a result
will play in Provisional League Div 3 next year. Mornington finished
6th

Another milestone in club history is reached
on the weekend against Nunawading City when evergreen STEVE KEENAN plays
his 100th first team game for the club STEVE has been a loyal and consistent
player for the club ever since signing and can best be described as
a player’s player. The club is certainly hoping he will lace up
his boots again next season.
Thanks for all you have contributed to our club STEVE.
Steve played in the Strikers 1996 Championship Team, he has played 100
first games, 8 yellow cards, 1 red card and 13 goals, he has also played
9 reserve team games and has got 1 goal and 1 yellow card.
A word from Steve "Frankston Strikers has been the best club that
I have played for both on and off the field. I just want the best for
the club as they deserve it and I am looking forward to finishing my
career with a Championship Medal to go with the one in 1996. Go Strikers."

Despite drawing against Doveton 1-1 with Simon scoring
the goal, and numerous chances missed, Frankston/Peninsula Strikers
have gained promotion to State League South East Division 2. Congratulations
to all players who have been part of the 1st team squad this year. If
we win next week against Nunawading City we will win the league. So
get along and support the boys. In the tough game against Doveton no
substitutions were made and as a result Steve Keenan did not play his
100th game, lets hope he can get on the pitch next week.

Berwick City 3 V Morwell Pegasus 4 Mid Week Game
FROM THE PRESIDENT’S CHAIR
The visit of Doveton today brings a closure to our home matches at BALLAM
PARK. Off the field it has been a difficult year for the club with the
temporary move from McClelland Drive to here it has had its problems.
The major one being looking after two venues making sure both were running
like clockwork. Functions being well catered for at McClelland and above
all that both club houses have been kept clean. I trust our LONG ISLAND
CRICKET CLUB hosts will not be disappointed when we vacate and hand
the keys back to them for their season. Volunteer club men and woman
have I believe ensured the above and we offer them our grateful thanks.
Our canteen and bar staff have been tremendous. To you people, our supporters,
who turn up week in week out I know the team appreciated your vocal
support. Never more emphasised than the large amount of you who took
the long trek to DAREBIN for that vital game against ENDEAVOUR. Last
but not certainly not least and particularly SIMON who assures me he
always reads the programme, the players seniors and reserves we have
been so proud of them backed up by coaching staff, team managers, our
masseur LEAH for keeping the boys on the park all have done their part
in making this a great season. After last weeks draw at BERWICK the
scenario for the club is that to gain promotion we need three points
to win the league six points, so the season is going to be played out
to the finish. The future of the club looks in good hands with the on
going merger and we hope to see in the future many of the juniors coming
through the system to play for our first eleven. The fact that so many
junior parents’ boys and girls have attended games and also entertained
the crowd at half time with small matches has been very encouraging.
Prior to the start of next season the VFF will ratify the merger. A
competition to design a new logo for the club was held recently over
forty entries were received after consultation between seniors and juniors
an entry from LAURENCE HALL was accepted as the future logo of the club,
the design featured on this match programme is one very similar to the
chosen one. So PENINSULA STRIKERS will be firing on all cylinders next
season at McClelland Drive, despite how it looks at present the Frankston
Council have assured us it will be ready. Hope to see you all back next
season and until then.

RESERVE TEAM REPORT
OUR UP & COMING YOUNGSTERS
As the 2007 season heads towards its finish, a big thank you
from everyone who has made Jimmy and myself most welcome, it is our
first season at the club and despite some ups and downs with the seconds
results, we have always received positive feedback on the way the team
is going.
This season has seen a number of young players make debuts for the seconds,
however, not as many as we would have liked, unfortunately we could
not play any of the boys from the peninsula Juniors as the full merger
of the two clubs has not been completed. It was a pity as we could have
used them on a number of occasions this season.
A few of the new boys who have made debuts this year
Andrew Curd - 14 year old midfielder who has joined us from Frankston
Pines Juniors, Andrew has improved throughout the season, making the
substitutes list for the firsts last week at Berwick, Andrew joins his
three brothers in the seconds.
Drew Reid - another 14-year-old midfielder who has joined from Chelsea
and has got stronger as the season has progressed
Sean Flynn- Goalkeeper who played with Mornington last season
Travis Park- utility player from Northern Ireland, Travis has played
in nearly every position on the Field this season
Scott-our French/Scottish import- who always gives you 100%
Finally on behalf of Jimmy and myself a thank you to all the reserves
players
We may not have one every game but you did not stop trying in any of
the games
And for that you should be commended

Steve has played 100 first games, 8 yellow cards, 1 red card and 13
goals, he has also played 9 reserve team games and has got 1 goal and

The unfortunate injury to LEEROY at DAREBIN spoilt what was certainly
a great evening his injury will possibly end his season prematurely.
Hopefully today we could have better news with the return of several
players missing from first team duty of late. GARRY HUGHES after a three
month injury lay off, JOHN JOVAN after a Vietnam holiday trip ( just
what is it about Vietnam as the LEES and the ADDICOATS have recently
returned from a holiday there too) MICKEY MOORE after his hammy strain
and MARK Le GNOK out with flu last week. Apologies to MATT PEARCE I
say MATT PEARCE who has spent all this season in the programme as MICHAEL
PIERCE at least we have got it right for this last programme for the
season. Goal keeper MATT MINOR could be heading to the UK with work
duties he has been such a great find for the club that we will really
miss him. Although no date has yet been set the clubs AGM will be held
in October at the club rooms at McCLELLAND DRIVE please keep your eyes
and ears open for the date.
In a disappointing performance from the boys, probably due to 3 games
(Mooroolbark, Endeavour & Berwick) in a week we didn't seem ourselves.
With Lee Wilkinson probably out for the year with an ankle injury, Micky
Moore with a hammy and Jon Jovan overseas we were already under manned.
Stevie Keenan in his 99th game stepped up so too Matt Pearce to start
in the starting line up though. Murat got us off to a start with a good
goal, both teams had some good attempts but both couldn't score. Berwick
went a man down late in the first half due to a last man tackle but
we just couldn't capitalise on it so the score at half time was 1-0.
The second half saw Berwick attack at our goals and a clearance header
from Luke Ventieri saw the ball go in the back of our net. Our players
just couldn't put the game together causing Marcus Brownlie to get a
silly yellow card followed by another just 1 minute to go causing his
send off.
The score finished at 1-1 a good result all considering.

It was well worth the 49 minute drive last night to
arrive at the Darebin International Football Complex to see three artificial
flood lit football fields, with one field show casing the fantastic
Peninsula Strikers and we didn't let the strong Strikers fans down with
an emphatic 4 – 1 victory over Endeavour United.
We started strong with Simon O’Donnell missing an early chance
and a scare from Micky Moore whose hammy seemed to go, he did however
play on but was forced off later in the game. It was though Simon O’Donnell
who got us off the mark with the first goal and then later in the half
Murat slotted our second. We didn’t stop there though and continued
to pressure the endeavour defence. But it was 2 – 0 at half time.
We came out a bit lethargic in the second half with Endeavour continuing
to pepper our goal, but it was Luke Ventieri on the break who scored
our third. Not to be outdone though Endeavour scored a goal when our
defence stopped thinking their player was off side, but the officials
thought otherwise.
We seald Endeavours fate with a fourth from you guessed it Simon O’Donnell
to finish the score at 4-1. The song was sung loud and proud after the
game.

The win now puts us in top spot 2 points clear of Eastern Lions and
seven points clear of Endeavour who still possibly have a catch up game
against Nunawading because their game was abandoned last week.
Great job boys, Saturday sees us up against Berwick get along and watch
the mighty Strikers.

MOOROOLBARK are today’s visitors and unfortunately they find themselves
at the bottom of a very tight ladder, we drew the previous game with
them away 2-2, but we incurred two red cards. To keep our promotion
hopes alive we should need all 3 points today. The thought of either
promotion or relegation keeps everybody in anticipation and with just
five games to go with promotion in our sights we can take a look at
our games and also that of EASTERN LIONS and ENDEAVOUR.
STRIKERS, today MOOROOLBARK. Wednesday away to ENDEAVOUR, BERWICK away
DOVETON home and finely NUNAWADING away. EASTERN LIONS have four games
to go BERWICK at home today DOVETON away NUNAWADING away and SPRINGVALE
at home. ENDEAVOUR have five games NUNAWADING at home today STRIKERS
at home FITZROY away MORWELL away and finely SANDRINGHAM at home. It’s
going to be a nail biter. With GORGE HUGHES away in Scotland for three
weeks DUGGIE CHISHOLM has taken over full coaching duties having been
involved all season. He has the full backing of both players and committee.
The STRIKERS are holding their main club fund raiser for the season
can you either sell or buy raffle tickets for your club, we hope to
raise enough money to pay off what else but accumulated debts, yes it
doesn’t get any better to run a club so how about it. Please see
any of our bar staff or committee members if you can help. So until
our last home fixture for season 2007 in a fortnight GO STRIKERS!
SOCCER SNIPPETS
TOM BURGESS popular coach of our men’s Sunday sides has been appointed
director of coaching for our junior section for next season. He will
definitely benefit our up and coming youngsters. Young JOE DONAGHY set
off for Scotland with GEORGE HUGHES on his soccer playing future. He
has a number of trials already lined up namely at RANGERS HEARTS KILMARNOCK
FALKIRK and across the border with PORT VALE. All at the club wish him
the very best of luck.
Possibly not many people outside of the old KARINGAL fraternity would
know one of their ex players ANDREW DOCHERTY, it was very sad to hear
that his wife of just a few months was tragically killed on the Frankston
Freeway just a few weeks ago. We offer our condolences to the family.
The club was given news on a trip back to Scotland of ex player/supporter
of RAB STEWART and Rosemary. The HEARTS club surprised him with tickets
for the opening game of the season against HIBS a loss 0-1 I’m
afraid. However it brought back nostalgic memories for RAB, in 1979/80
he was a member of the team that helped win the championship it was
certainly an emotional return and one he will long cherish. As mentioned
else where the rearranged and very important fixture against ENDEAVOUR
will be played at DAREBIN soccer complex NORTHCOTE next Wednesday evening
KO 8:30 pm.
Once again our young Nigerian soccer player has emailed the club continuing
his wish to play for STRIKERS we are still trying to find out if this
is a genuine request. Hopefully DAVID BECKHAM might be next.
BAYSIDE NEWS
At the halfway point in the FILLIES competition was split into two sections
in a similar fashion to the Scottish Premier League
The girls finished in the lower half of the league. However in the new
competition set up they are confident they can do well.
Mean while the men’s first team are progressing well in the cup
competition. In the last round they beat PHILLIP ISLAND 10-0
DANIEL CONDON doing a SIMON O’DONNELL in scoring five goals. In
the next round they have been drawn at home against WESTERN PORT. Tomorrow
all three teams are at home the first game starting at 11 am.

What a result, the score was one to us early in the first half
with Simon O'Donnell scoring, Springvale equalized late in the half
from a defensive error. The score at half time was 1-1.
Strikers came out Striking in the second half with 4 more goals to Simon
making it 5 for the game, one from Joey (most probably his last game
this season due to trials overseas) and the last to Micky Moore. These
goals are really going to help our chances of top spot with goal difference
maybe making the difference.
With Simon's individual tally of 5 for the game he equalled Joe Donaghy
Seniors record of 5 in a game when he scored 5 against Fitzroy way back
in 1995. Congratulations Simon.

CONGRATULATIONS ALEX RAE 100
FIRST TEAM GAMES
(2ND TIME LUCKY)
Legend has it that while Rome burned Nero fiddled, not so with
Alex over the past few years, when the club was hurting and perhaps
burning he has played with his heart. Guided by Billy Rae his illustrious
dad Alex’s early introduction to our present day club was is an
U14 in 1986 when he joined Skye Rovers Soccer Club. Alex played in the
Jets team one of the clubs Super League sides, the Jets were one of
the first Super League sides from the Peninsula. They had mixed league
results however at U16 level the team made the Bicentennial Junior cup
finals which were played at Skye’s old soccer complex at Robinson
Road against Altona Gate a team they had not beaten in several years,
however after an exciting game going into extra time we ran out winners
2-1. It is worth mentioning that in other finals on the day Aussie stars
Mark Viduka and Kevin Muscat featured. Alex was also chosen as a Peninsula
Regional Representative while he was at the club. In 1989 Alex moved
away from the club spending his senior career at a few different clubs
including Springvale City and Chelsea. At the latter end of Russell
Blacks reign in 2002 Alex answered a call to join a club struggling
to find any form on the field. He has been at the club ever since. Captain
of the senior side Alex played his 100th first team club game against
Morwell last week, a remarkable achievement, considering his long run
of injuries, none of which stopped him playing sometimes by necessity
for the club virtually playing on one leg. I know at one stage it was
getting all a bit too much and Alex was considering giving the game
away. However since George Hughes and Dougie Chisholm took over the
coaching he has had a new lease of life and to prove it was last years
Best and Fairest and Players Player. Karen and the children give Alex
great support watching each week in fact Karen herself has played several
times for our Fillies team. Alex is held in great esteem by his fellow
players in fact when we print other player profiles his name always
appears. There can only be one Alex Rae all at the club have appreciated
was he has contributed. Thanks for those 100 games Alex heres to the
next 100. Some statistics Alex has played 100 first team games plus
two reserve games, has had 23 yellow cards he is third behind Russell
Black and Kevin McGuinness, 4 red cards and is again sharing third position
for this behind the afore mentioned.

News Flash
I have just recalculated the games and its
looks as though I have made a huge error, that being Alex Rae's 100th
game it is in fact this week against Morwell Pegasus not last week as
previously stated. So you might need to give the trophy back for us
to update it again Alex.
Sorry Alex and supporters good luck this week though.
Stevie Keenan's dream is alive and well with him playing the last ten minutes of the game. 94 down 6 to go.
Peninsula Strikers took control of the State Division
3 competition by defeating top side Eastern Lions 3-1 to give them first
place on goal aggregate with a game in hand.
Murat Demirkol nabbed two and Simon O'Donnell scored a single to put
the Strikers in a commanding position to gain promotion.
Demirkol put Strikers in front in the first half, but the Lions were
awarded a penalty shortly after and evened the ledger 1-1.
After the break, O'Donnell was fouled by the Lions' keeper, stepping
up himself to give Strikers a 2-1 lead. Shortly after, O'Donnell went

on the rebounding ball to make the score 3-1.
Strikers' coach George Hughes said his side performed brilliantly against
the table leader, and the big travelling contingent of vocal supporters
had helped secure the win.
"It was a big win for us, to be honest. We wanted to knock them
off their perch and that's what we did. Our supporters actually broke
into song for the first time in years and that really lifted the boys."
Strikers hope to have Joe Donaghy back this week for a tough trip to
the Latrobe Valley to play the improving Morwell Pegasus, but they are
unlikely to have Gary Hughes for the remainder of the season due to
a groin injury that is worse than first thought.

What a great result for the boys a 2 - 1 win with both
goals coming from Simon O'Donnell. We fought hard in the first half
but went one nil done when Big Alex Rae accidentally handled the ball
in the box resulting in a Sandringham penalty which Matt Minor couldn't
save. We equalised late in the first half from Simon making it 1 - 1
at half time. The second half saw both teams continue to attack but
it was a cross from the corner that saw Simon net his second (great
celebration Simon). The boys are playing well at the moment and the
crowd are sure getting their money's worth (isn't that right Alex, we
come to watch you, not the men in black). Great to see Stevie Keenan
get a run could he get to 100 (92 down 8 to go????????).

The Reserves also had a hard fought game resulting in a 2 - 2 draw.
The next two games for the Strikers are both away to Eastern Lions and
Morwell Pegasus, we don't see them back at Ballam Park until 4/8 when
we play Springvale City Vales.
Next week against Eastern Lions Alex Rae will play his 100th 1st team game for the club, get along to the game and celebrate this milestone with Alex. Congratulations Alex.
FROM THE PRESIDENTS CHAIR
When the rains came down last weekend it was odds on that the ENDEAVOUR
complex could not take the deluge, never the best of grounds at most
times, both games were called off. Normally these rearranged games would
slot in to the usual bye round set up in the fixtures, however this
is not a normal season and so the game will have to be played following
the last match against NUNAWADING possibly on SEPTEMBER 15th. While
on the subject of grounds many people have mentioned their concern at
the state of the McCLELLAND DRIVE pitch, bearing in mind that training
could start in December friendlies arranged in January for next season
the ground looks light years away from all of this. Calls have been
put in to the council parks department as well as to councillor COLIN
HAMPTON, a good friend of the club, who has promised to follow up on
our concern with the works department. Since the ground was dug over
and the summer grass put in the pitch has deteriorated further. The
council as you may remember spent well over $100,000 in producing what
was at the time considered the best soccer ground in Victoria. Over
the last year it can at best be described as a good wild life sanctuary
for birds with lakes in which the birds and frogs can thrive. We can
only hope that this pear shaped situation can be changed and we can
return to our true home next season.

SOCCER SNIPPETS
The power of the computer, web sites etc are beyond me however LAURENCE
has set up one of the best club web sites in Australia. Besides all
the news about STRIKERS and of course BAYSIDE and JUNIORS we now have
links to over 200 clubs throughout Victoria Australia and Overseas.
You can spend many hours exploring the web site. Just this week an email
came through to him from Scotland relating to club man BILLY INGLIS
the question was “was it the same person he used to know”
LAURENCE emailed BILLY and the result was that both were reunited. The
hits are detailed by name and it is surprising to see many ex juniors
of 20 years ago going in to our web site.
I ran into George Wallace last week George was once the face of the
VFF over recent times George has not enjoyed the best of health however
he tries to keep up with the soccer scene and asked me to pass on his
best wishes to the STRIKERS club. MATT MINOR has come from good soccer
stock. His dad was once on Chelsea’s books and his brother RUSSELL
played A League for Brisbane Strikers.
BAYSIDE NEWS
Our FILLIES side recorded another good win last week an excellent team
effort high lighted by two goals from TEAGAN BENNETT. Our men’s
teams both fell in a proverbial heap as they recorded heavy loses, but
there is always tomorrow.

This weeks game against Endeavour United was postponed due to the pitch being unplayerable due to the weather.
A great come from behind win for the team, we were
1 nil at half time despite some good chances in front of the goal. Came
out strong in second half and got an early one through a penalty taken
by Murat, Fitzroy continued to push though and as a result went in front
2 - 1. This pushed us harder and we managed to slot one more from a
header from Simon O'Donnell. This spurred us on and Fitzroy to in fight
and the result saw John Jovan score the winner.
The Reserves on the other hand started the game playing against 7 men,
but unfortunately couldn't capitalise on this, and despite the high
scoring game we went down 4-5.

FROM THE PRESIDENTS CHAIR
As if with the blink of an eye today’s game against FITZROY sees
the second half of the season begin, really hard to believe considering
the drought and the late date for the season to start. Over the next
few weeks we will play several very important fixtures against the top
sides which perhaps could blow the season wide open. Two away games
against ENDEAVOUR and EASTERN LIONS who incidentally are today playing
each other promise to be two exciting games. SANDRINGHAM at home falls
between these matches. Speaking to JAMIE SKELLY, LUKE VENTIERI and GARRY
HUGHES all assure me they will be back in the first team squad very
soon with their injuries on the mend. GARRY HUGHES is at present recuperating
in Thailand not I might add at the clubs expense so we should be able
to welcome back a very fit and tanned player. An appeal on behalf of
both MICKY MOORE and LEE WILKINSON was held last Thursday but due to
this programme deadline I can not give you ant result. Apologies to
STEVEN CURD his name has been missing from the reserve team squad listed
in previous programmes, at least we know people are in fact reading
their match day programme. I would be interested to know just exactly
how many clubs do publish a match day programme we are fortunate enough
to have at least four people at this club who make the programme possible.
SOCCER SNIPPETS
Our BAYSIDE FILLIES had the weekend at Phillip Island last week playing
the local side on Sunday. New comers in the ladies BAYSIDE comp this
year one would think that all teams going there would do the same as
our FILLIES did and have a good weekend. Added to this we came away
with a much needed point “Well done girls”

GO STRIKERS
Reserves Nunawading Vs Peninsula Strikers score 3-1 (23/06/07).
This weeks game saw the reserves without some key players
either through injury, suspension, or being called up to the first team
squad.
The boys where in good spirits and had Nunawading looking a bit worried
with some very early near misses, two of our chances hit the Nunawading
cross bar from long range.
Nunawading found there feet and began to counter our early efforts;
there side had some very quick players who began to test our defence.
Nunawading scored from a fast attack that caught our defence flat footed.
A second goal followed from Nunawading after a midfield error allowed
there attack to pressure us off the ball 2-0.
The second half saw Strikers score with a nicely woven one man attack
and goal by Collin Hanna 2-1 to Nunawading.
Shortly after Collins one man attack and goal, he was caught out in
midfield and some seconds later Nunawading scored number 3.
Strikers did not stop pressuring the ball, coming very close too scoring
as a corner whistled past at least 3 of our players just needing the
slightest tap to convert.
Take heart boys the playing at times was very good, the passing was
accurate and defensively we tightened up and covered for each other.
A great win by the boys from a late first half goal by Simon
O'Donnell it could have been a lot more but the Nunawading City goal
keeper pulled off some blinders to keep them in the game.
A great result from all the boys.
The Reserves lost 3 - 1 with Colin Hanna scoring the goal.

Anyone who originated from the Northern hemisphere will remember the
expression “Flaming June.” Well we in the STRIKERS hemisphere
could say a lot more than that
Since, it had been a disastrous month of results, for us until last
Saturday. The red card syndrome certainly did not help, the last minute
injury to GARRY HUGHES against SOUTHERN SUBURBS CRAIG WRIGHT choosing
to join BERWICK all this combining to stop our steady rise up the ladder.
For all STRIKERS supporters who travelled to DOVETON last Saturday came
back with a view it was one of our best performances against a team
on top at the time of the ladder. Regaining SIMON and JOE JNR was certainly
the catalyst we needed before the game and the 3-0 score line certainly
backed up the way we played. We have signed three players over recent
weeks all of whom previously played at the club JOHN JOVAN LUKE VENTIERI
and MARK GNOK nice to have you back at the club. NUNAWADING who were
fortunate enough to stay in our division this season visit us today.
We know we will be in for an even game. The three points deducted by
the VFF has now been restored to us after many appeals, going back to
the red carded players we have also felt it necessary to appeal their
sentences SIMON and JOE JNR originally had four weeks which the club
managed to get reduced. LEIGH got six weeks and MICKY eight weeks how
this can be justified I don’t know and we will be doing our best
to get these reduced as well .I was told of a DANDENONG THUNDER Player
whom was given one week plus an extra twelve goodness knows what this
player did.
Many supporters have mentioned to me that since the FRANKSTON RSL have
got behind the club that they have become members and also attended
functions. This certainly is the feed back I needed when we have to
resign sponsors for the next season. ROB MORRISON from the RSL has also
commented to me in glowing terms of the way our club has responded to
their sponsorship of STRIKERS for 2007.
SOCCER SNIPPETS
It was rather late reaching my attention however it is not too late
to offer our good wishes to SASHA and JAMES on the birth of their second
son LUKE WILLIAM SASHA has had to take off this season from kicking
the soccer ball for the FILLIES. Mr Web Site LAURENCE has informed me
to congratulate MARCUS BROWNLIE on achieving fifty games recently for
STRIKERS keep it going MARCUS. 1978 saw the start of not only the BAYSIDE
league but part of the fore runner of this club in that SKYE and SKYE
ROVERS JNRS were formed making this part of our club 30 years old this
year. Plans are we hope to have a reunion of SKYE FRANKSTON and who
ever else would like to celebrate the occasion later in the year. We
are still looking for old photos of the club for the legends room and

Our senior players have joined the race to raise funds for the club
the idea being they each obtain a sponsor for $200 their photo will
appear in the club rooms with their sponsors name on this photo. Any

A disappointing result for the boys, our two key players
watched the game from behind the goals after their send offs last week
and keeper Matthew Minor missing, we were one nil done within the first
five minutes and fought hard for the rest of the half and had some great
chances but just could put the ball in the back of the net. It took
a good shot by Mickey Moore to put the scores even, so that was the
score at half time.
The boys though didn't come out their usual selves in the second half
and where under the pump from the whistle. Our first of three send offs
was assistant coach Doug Chisolm, who the linesman didnt take a liking
to and he was ask to leave the coaching area. Leigh Wilkinson was next
to leave after a wayward tackle and finally Micky Moore left after a
fair tackle on the keeper, the ball should have been stopped before
it reached the keeper though with a free kick to us outside the box.
Berwick got their second and then we where awarded a penalty that Murat
finished. After more attacks by Berwick Marcus who played a great game
tried to clear a ball from a good save by Damien Bradbury but unfortuntely
for him and us he kicked it into his own net. So the final score was
3 - 2.
The Reserves continue their great form with a great 2 - 1 win.

Reserves match Fitzroy Vs Peninsula Strikers
result 3 – 0 loss, 11/06/2007.
Traveling to Fitzroy we knew there might be a struggle to field
a full squad, due to prior sending offs, plus injuries for both seniors
and reserves.
We started with only 1 substitute
The park was big allowing for the speedsters to do their thing run;
Fitzroy had some very quick boys.
Marc Lo-Ngok took up the sweepers post; his enthusiasm and fitness are
growing with each game.
Fitzroy seemed more organised moving out of defense and supporting their
attackers.
Our boys did get close to scoring 2 or 3 times but poor finishing under
pressure seemed the order of the day.
Guys the result could have been 5 or 6, Shaun Flynn again making several
saves that kept the score line reasonable.
What was good to see from our boys, we kept going, the passing, and
playing together flowed, we attacked when we could.
Even towards the end we where pushing to score a goal until the final
whistle.
Marc and Shaun played their hearts, out I am sure we will give Fitzroy
a run for there money at home.

Reserves match Peninsula Strikers Vs Berwick, Result 2 –
1 win, 9/06/2007.
This week’s game at home to Berwick saw a good solid
performance; Damien was required to take up his place in the firsts
between the sticks.
With Travis Park still out through injury and Graeme Wright not available,
the lads shaped up.
We seemed to take Berwick by surprise with an early 3 minute goal from
Patrick McGeoch, followed soon after by a cheeky chip from Matthew Curd
to make the score line 2-0.
Slowly Berwick got there act together and stemmed the constant attacking
from Strikers, just before the half time whistle Berwick scored.
The 2nd half saw us rattle the woodwork at least three times but to
no avail.
Berwick still kept coming, again though Shaun Flynn kept the opposition
at bay, even when there was a little defensive confusion.
Unfortunately after having been substituted Matthew Curd was red carded
at the 70th minute whilst on the bench, Matt was trying to come to the
aid of his younger brother Andrew who was involved in a minor pushing
and shoving contest, Matt may now sit out at least the next 3 or 4 games.
We hung on to keep the score line 2-1.

FROM THE PRESIDENTS CHAIR
BERWICK CITY are today’s visitors to our venue, we offer a warm
welcome to all connected with their club. Continuing to pick up points
especially when playing away is vital to the club if we are going to
challenge for honours this season. Last week was a prime example when
both sides drew their games against a team that has over past seasons
been a thorn in our side. BERWICK too have always caused us problems
so we hope our tremendous home form continues again today. MURAT DEMIRAOL
has settled well into the side after we signed him from CASEY COMETS
a natural goal scorer he has given great support to SIMON O’DONNEL
and JAMIE SKELLY. Some good new for the club was that FRANKSTON CITY
COUNCIL have approved a grant for the club for $2000 which will enable
us to refurbish chairs at our McClelland Drive club rooms, although
this falls well short of the $60,000 that both LANGY and PINES are getting
for their flood lights we must hope that as they say our turn will come.
The rearranged fixture against FITZROY CITY will be played on Monday
at FITZROY it is a catch up round for all clubs in the league who could
not start their season on the opening day due to the drought.

Despite not being at McClelland Drive for this season our appeal to
be a brick is still very much open. Have your name on the special “Be

SOCCER SNIPPETS
On a recent visit to ECHUCA we met up with ARLENE and GEOFF HURST now
living in PICOLA
(not too far away from ECHUCA) They send their best wishes to all their
friends and hope that the STRIKERS have a great season. While in ECHUCA
I ventured across the boarder into NSW to watch some soccer. The game
was between the reserve teams of the local side MOAMA RAIDERS and their
visitors SWAN HILL. The game was of a fairly high standard and when
I left the RAIDERS were leading 1-0. I managed to speak to the MOAMA
president who informed me that between three hundred to four hundred
boys and girls play at the club. The set up has four full size pitches
plus areas for the smaller children all these grounds were in excellent
condition. There is a possibility that our Sunday FILLIES team will
have an end of season trip up to MOAMA to play their club’s girl
team.
Keeping on with junior soccer I get great pleasure in coaching boys
and girls at WOODLANDS PRIMARY SCHOOL in LANGWARRIN. The school is very
fortunate to have an artificial grass surface which I believe cost over
$300,000. No drought problems here. Some officials from the AFL were
sent down to the school to see for themselves the possibilities of having
something similar at other venues. Playing matches against other schools
has made me aware that at the grass roots level and in many cases without
good coaching there is plenty of soccer talent around in both girls
and boys in the FRANKSTON area.
BAYSIDE NEWS
Pre season form had indicated that the boys were in for a good season,
what we didn’t think about was an injury toll enough to field
a whole team. Several players are already out for the whole season and
this has really eaten into our playing list. It has become increasingly
difficult for TOM to pick 11 fit players for the premier team. Given
a full squad the results will come he says.
Mean while our FILLIES team won their first game of the season much
to their delight a 1-0 win thanks to a HEIDI TABORSKY goal in the closing
minutes against WESTERN PORT. By all reports a good team effort coaches
included.

Last night Peninsula Strikers won their appeal at the Football Federation regarding the dispute over unregistered players in the game against Endeavour United and was awarded the 3 points back, this now puts us in second spot on the ladder.
Some disappointing news for Strikers fans is that Craig
Wright has decided to leave the club and will this week line up against
us, as he has signed up with Berwick City. Craig played 95 1st Team
Games and scored 15 goals. We all wish you luck for the future Craig
and hope you will return in the not to distant future.
Strikers V Mooroolbark
Strikers led 1-0 at the break via a Murat Demirkol goal but
were pegged back to 1-1 early in the second half.
They took the lead again through James Skelly but things went down hill
from there with Simon O'Donnell and Joe Donaghy receiving relatively
soft red cards.
Peninsula looked as though it was going to pull off an undermanned away
victory until pegging themselves back with an own goal.
Strikers continued to fight and were almost rewarded with a late goal
when Marcus went one on one with the Mooroolbark keeper but was unable
to convert.
Coach George Hughes said the most disappointing thing was losing O'Donaghy
and O'Donnell for this weeks game against Berwick.
Strikers go before the tribunal this week to appeal against the decision
to strip them of their first-round points against Endeavour for failing
to have the entire team registered in time for the opening round.
Strikers' defence rests on the FFV's inherently difficult online registration
system which they say was to blame for the oversight, and if the appeal
is up held the three points and goal aggregate they receive will push
them into second spot on the State League SE division three table.

Reserves match Peninsula Strikers Vs Mooroolbark, Result 1 – 1 draw.
Fairly equal sides closely contended this week’s
match played at Mooroolbark.
The first half saw some close hard contact from each team.
Due to a miss calculated pass across our own goal that resulted in a
miss kicked clearance from the central defense, we let the Barkers draw
first blood.
Colin Hanna played for the first half and took control of the midfield;
Colin was then required to be part of the first team squad, great half
Colin.
The start of the 2nd half saw Matthew Curd carrying a slight ankle injury
take Colins place from the subs bench.
During the 2nd half we where treated to a trick of old from Diego Hodge
(Hodgey) the hand of GOD, which went in but unfortunately the ref spotted
the infringement.
Patrick returning from his arm injury played up front and worked tirelessly
to keep us in the game, Patrick for me was best on ground.
With about 10 minutes to go Graeme Wright got onto a rebound from the
Barkers defense and was able to slot it home.
The pitch was not the smoothest of surfaces, which allowed for some
scrappy play.
This week saw only 2 subs on the bench from last week’s squad
of 16, famine or feast.

What A Result!
A new look Southern Suburbs travelled to Ballam Park. With
the Strikers walking out with some Junior players in the new strip,
we new we were in for a tight game. In a tightly contested first half
we went down 1 - 0 half way through the half, but it wasn't long before
we fought back and scored the equaliser with a goal from James Skelly.
Both teams continued to press and it seemed Southern had the better
we they thought that they had scored there second only to be denied
by the linesman. (and Number 5 for only didn't let him forget it also
for the game.)
So the boys went in at half time 1-1.
Despite some arguing from big Alex once the whistle had blown we went
in to the rooms and came out with a different attitude. We attacked
from the start but just couldn't score. It wasn't until about halfway
through the first half we started to show what a great side we are,
with strike after strike, we finally hit our mark with 2 great goals
from James Skelly making it 3 for the day. Murat Demiraol chipped the
goalie, Simon O'Donnell from a tight angle slotted one past the keeper
and old timer Stevie Keenan also chipped the keeper from outside the
box (great celebrating Steve). In the end a 7 - 1 win which came on
the back of a 6 - 2 win, great stuff boys.
Reserves match Frankston Strikers Vs Southern Suburbs, Result 1 – 0 to the Strikers.
Saturday saw a squad of 15 players on the team sheet,
also the return of Shaun Flynn back between the sticks.
The boys seem to sense that they had a good solid side, there confidence
rising with each game played together.
The ground freshly cut the boys showed some good attacking play, the
Southern lads also had a few skilful players who tested both the defense
and our keeper.
We began trading attacking maneuvers, eventually Hodgey finding a way
through with a nice strike to put Strikers in front 1-0.
Matthew Curd suffered a heavy knock, but managed to soldier on nearly
making the score line 2 or 3.
Southern sensing we were going to chase and close down almost everything
pulled out all the stops, but to no avail the lads held firm.
Shaun’s return saw him make some very important saves to keep
us afloat, keep it up Shauny.
Travis dropping into the back line seemed to work well, but I guess
that’s not where he will want to spend the season.
I over heard Damo declaring JC as B.O.G, but for me there was a least
3 or 4 players who toughed it out too.
Well done boys it was our best team performance so far.

Great also to see Patrick McGeogh's return to train on Tuesday, he couldn't
make Thursday's though due to a trip to the circus with his wife, and
despite a run in with a supporter Mark Ngok also played in the Ressies
this week.

Apologies to Joe Donaghy Senior and Junior who we failed to mention as a father and son combination. Some thought Ryan and Darren Lee should have got a mention but unfortunately Darren has never played for Frankston Strikers 1sts or Reserves, if I had included Bayside then yes, which means I would then have to mention Laurence and Gary Hall, Scott and Billy Buchanan, Dennis and Matthew Bennett, to name a few.
FROM THE PRESIDENTS CHAIR
Another commanding performance from the lads at SPRINGVALE last week
the highlight perhaps a hat trick from SIMON O’DONNEL (Trevor
Johnston was the last player to score a hatrick way back in R18 2004
against Eastern Lions)
The 6-2 scoreline was our best result since 2003 when we beat Springvale
City 6-2 (Dale White 2, Michael Anderson 2, Tom Sinsini and Garry Harding
all scoring)
But a great all round performance particularly as the full squad was
not available for selection.
It was good to see the young reserve squad picking up another three
points also.
Now for what I can only describe without expletives as the low light
of last week. Many of you I know study the league tables and looking
carefully you will see that despite the first X1 losing only one game
we have been deducted a win, also put down for a 3-0 loss. It stems
back to the game against ENDEAVOUR remembering we won 1-0 convincingly,
some bright sparks associated with the VFF informed us that we had played
ineligible players they having not been registered !!!
All were registered however and also a letter sent by the VFF to our
club stated our finances with them were completely up to date. Members
of our committee have attended two tribunals in order to try and sort
out the so called mess. It is very difficult for us to understand as
prior to this first match every player was given a registration number,
so where is the problem. Although “the crime” has not come
up before the full committee the matter will not end here. I seem to
remember some years ago when RUSSEL BLACK was coaching at the club some
problem occurred and we were forced to go to a higher body as the VFF
sort to distance itself from changing a decision. Strikers won the case.
My sympathy for this debacle goes out to GEORGE and the coaching staff
and of course the players.
Our club is innocent of any wrong doing yet the panel of volunteers
who heard the case were egotistical and closed their ears to evidence
produced not only by us but by a VFF employee who dealt with the computer
registering system that is run by the governing body. It was also interesting
for me to find out that supposedly we had a girl’s team in the
VFF in their first game at RINGWOOD the home side were given a walk
over as STRIKERS did not turn up. No wunder our FILLIES team play BAYSIDE
football, now prior to this first game why no phone calls from the VFF
relating to not one member of this team being registered. This is all
very interesting bearing in mind the situation our first X1 has been
put in. What our club now has to think about is that elusive $ as appeals
cost money and there is no guarantee of a refund should we win the case.
After all this griping we welcome a new name to BALLAM PARK SOUTHERN
SUBURBS whom I believe could have been OAKLEIGH SUBURBS and did a name
change “its catching”

Oh TRUDI how could we forget your absence from the FILLIES team. Having
done all the pre-season training TRUDI was taken to hospital after an
injury sustained at a normal training session hopefully she will be
fit soon and rejoining the squad.
Our club website holds an immense amount of knowledge LAURENCE has fed
me the following information on web statistics 359 unique visitors who
have visited the site, 609 times, viewing 6552 pages, with 69278 hits
over all with the 14th May being the most view day having 86 visitors,
with Monday’s being the most viewed day.
He has also discovered brothers and fathers and sons who have played
for the club at senior level, Peter & Michael Addicoat , Fauq, Billal,Tarique
& Mustapha Amari, Boni & Clint Botha, Chris & Kevin Jones,
Simon & Luke Parrott, Chris & Alan Traynor, Craig & Ricky
Anstiss, Sasha & Serge Djurovic, Alex & William Rae, Ben &
Matt Swanson, Graham & John Watson, Craig & Steve Wright.
Young Alex Rae has now played 90 games for the club. The latest family
to have boys at the club is the Curd family four brothers all under
twenty are now in our reserve side quite remarkable.
Hat-trick lifts Strikers to stunning win
Peninsula Strikers produced the most stunning result of the weekend
in their 6-2 flogging of Springvale City in SE division three which
included a Simon O’Donnell hat-trick……..
Strikers’ coach George Hughes, who was without captain Alex Rae
and Micky Moore, was elated at his side’s performance though two
very late goals from Springvale took a little of the shine off.
The Strikers were 3 – 0 up at half time and 6 – 0 up with
just minutes remaining in a result that has pricked the attention of
the other SE division three frontrunners.
“We went out and we went at them and the boys worked extremely
hard all day. Their work rate was really incredible and at no stage
did they rest on their laurels,” Hughes said.
Aside from the O’Donnell hat-trick, Joe Donaghy, Damien Najder
and James Skelly all scored, with the 16-year-old Donaghy’s an
absolute cracker with his left peg from 20 metres out.

Reserves match Report against Springvale City
Vales (Won 2 - 1 E.Shyam & G.Wright)
This week our reserve team secured a 2-1 win over a very young Springvale
team.
Edwin Shyam, Alias Eddy our latest signing scored his first goal from
30 yards out.
Damien had to pull on his goalkeeping gloves again this week, Shaun
Flynn warmed up pre match but his back is still not right, we wish Shaun
a speedy recovery.
2nd half saw Graeme score a goal which from the line looked a bit scrappy,
but the referee blew the whistle and pointed towards the centre spot,
under some protest from Springvale.
Springvale scored to make the game a bit more interesting, Strikers
attacked several times more but close range misses seemed the order
of the day.
Coach may be serving up more shooting practice on Tuesday night, Matthew
Curd make sure you are there.
My choice of the day for effort, a willingness to close down, plus run
with the ball goes to two players Daniel Hodge (AKA Hodgey) and Stephen
Curd (AKA, JC).

Due to injury Shaun Flynn our inform young reserves
goal keeper could not play, Damien Bradbury had to step in.
At the close of the first half Matthew Curd had scored a very precis
goal, the Morewell keeper having being beaten to the ball by Matthew
who then moved away from goal turned and kicked ball over the retreating
keeper.
Towards the end of the first half Morwell had tested our defence several
times and began to realise we may have had a few guys out of position.
The 2nd half began with a defensive mistake that let Morwell score a
very easy goal.
Goals 2,3,4 followed for Morwell as there attack picked up the pace,
Strikers responded a few times, Matthew Curd rattled the right angle
beating the keeper, when maybe some felt he should have slid the ball
accross the Morwell goal.
Steve Keenan also missed from close range in the 2nd half.
Best on ground for the strikers reserves team for me
was Andrew Curd despite his age, and being moved back into defence he
never gives up,making some crucial if not some unorthodox challanges.
Reserve Team match Report By Russell Curd
In a tight game, with both teams playing some good
soccer, the Strikers came away with a 3 - 0 win.
In the first half both teams had some good attempts at goal, our keeper
Matthew Minor pulled of some great saves to keep us in the game. But
it was at the other end that Damian Nadier slotted our first from a
great strike from the top of the box. Despite some great attempts it
was 1 nil at half time.
We came out in the second half with great enthusiasm and fought hard
in the middle of the park through Micky Moore and from the back with
Marcus Brownlie. And the fight payed off with a penalty being awarded.
Unfortunately though for the penalty taker (name to follow) he missed
it but it was quickly followed up by 3 or 4 other Strikers. Simon O'Donnell
continued to try to slot his first and from a great volley he hit the
post. Soon after we received another penalty and the Damien Nadier slotted
it first time for his second.
The Reserves where outclassed by Morwell going down 4-1, report to follow
hopefully by Russell Curd the father of the 4 Curd's playing in the
Ressies. This must be some record for the club with 4 brothers all playing
in the same team.

Good to see also that Mark Ngok is back training after a few years away
from soccer (despite having a little altercation with a fellow Strikers
supporter), (we all love ya Mark!)
Congratulations also to Stevie Grimmant who got married not song long
ago, apparantly it was a surprise to everyone except Billy Inglis who
actually knew the event was going to take place before Steve even knew.

From the Presidents Chair
Hard on the heels of last week’s visitors EASTERN LIONS we welcome
a much travelled MORWELL PEGASUS to BALLAM PARK. I would personally
like to thank you die hard supporters for attending last week when the
much talked about PINES/LANGY local derby was being played out not too
far away. From all reports our game turned out to be more exciting than
the other one. If today’s game is anything like last weeks we
are in for another cracker. The performance of new signing Queenslander
MATTHEW MINOR was inspiring to say the least and his penalty, save probably
turned the game around. Equally having a SIMON O’DONNEL up front
means every chance a goal will be carved out, but I can’t forget
the rest of the team with young ALEX RAE having a new lease of life
at the back and everyone raising their games lets keep it going. Our
young reserve side with a couple of older heads in their midst announced
their coming with a gold class performance last week gaining their first
points of the season. The club is urgent need of two frameworks for
the dug outs rather than coach and players sitting out in the open in
all weather we would like to have some covered accommodation for them.
For those who haven’t heard BILLY TAYLOR from one of our BAYSIDE
teams won the club raffle.

If anyone remembers our efforts to insure the officials and players
could see the lines against ENDEAVOR CHRIS REYNOLDS has answered our
prayers by painting the markings and it appears to be working perhaps
the next step is the BAYSIDE pitch, what will TONY HALL do then Thank
you CHRIS.
A reminder from LAURENCE HALL about our clubs website for all those
computer buffs log into our site for all the updated news passed and
present on your club. The site is also linked to other clubs so you
can bring yourself up to date with all the local football news (round
ball type.) Over the time LAURENCE has run it we have had in computer
language hits from all over the world. Prior to Christmas a player in
Nigeria registered his interest in coming to play for STRIKERS I ‘m
afraid all the red tape associated with his move knocked it on the head.
LAURENCE by the way runs LONG ISLANDS cricket club website and it has
been voted as one of the best three of its kind in Australia (Well done
LAURENCE) He informed me all the extras he has added over summer and
this should please all you STRIKER’S followers.
The junior section commenced last week and we shall try to keep you
informed with some of their results. Two players still missing from
STRIKERS line ups are RYAN LEE and TERRY BINYON. RYAN whom I believed
to be one of STRIKERS gutsiest players often going out to play on one
leg to help his beloved club however his current injury is likely to
side line him all season. TERRY best and fairest two seasons ago for
the reserves is I’m afraid back on crutches having missed all
of last season with a broken ankle a pin had been inserted to aid the
recovery but it seems the battle to get back on the pitch for him is
far from over.
BAYSIDE NEWS
It was not our Sunday for good results last week for the opening of
the BAYSIDE league season in the first game the FILLIES came up against
a strong SEAFORD unit and went down 3-0 Striker TEGAN BENNET and BELINDA
NISBET were both unavailable for this match. Both our men’s teams
played CROYDON in the reserve game we were actually winning 2-0 and
3-2 at various stages of the game and from late in the first half playing
against only ten men due to a send off yet we still contrived to throw
the game away in the last ten minutes losing 4-3. MARK MILLS scored
2 and LEE WINSOR the other goal. In the first team game we found ourselves
two goals down in ten minutes and never really recovered from this the
final score 4-1 added to this an injury to SEAN FLYNN did not help.

This week Strikers came up against Eastern Lions the Reserves got of
to a great start by getting an early goal, it could have been two but
Stevie Keenan missed a penalty, so we went in 1 nil at half time. In
the second half the Lions got an early one, but we fought hard and got
two more. In a game that could have been atleast 20 goals a piece, inaccurate
shooting cost both team. A great result for the Reserves with its first
win for the season (last season it took 16 Round for the Ressies to
get its first win) a great result boys.
With a strong crowd support despite the local derby of Pines and Langy
the Firsts battled hard, the game went backward and forward with neither
team being able to penetrate the goals, it wasn't until Simon O'Donnell
got the ball and was able to slot it past the Lions goalkeeper. The
score at half time 1- nil.
The Lions came out strong in the second half, despite Simon O'Donnell
missing a great chance from a header at the back post, which probably
could have sealed the win for us. Eastern Lions continued to penetrate
the goals and were awarded by a penalty being given. A great save though
by our goal keeper Matthew Minor though, kept us in the game. Simon
O'Donnell had a few more great chances but couldn't finish them. It
was left to Junior (Joe Donaghy) to put the game out of the Lions hands
by scoring our second. A great result for the boys.

Next week we are at home again against Morwell Pegasus. Last year we
drew 1-1 away and at home beat them 1-0, so I'm sure it will be another
tight game against them.

From The Coach
After the worst and longest pre-season we have known it was great to get the 1st game underway against Endeavour United (who last year took 11 goals off us) at our new home for the season Ballam Park. It was pleasing to beat them 1-0 with a magnificent strike in the second half, from Mickey Moore which was good enough to win any game!!!
However, last week we lost 2-1 to Sandringham another tremendous goal this time from Simon O’Donnell. Anybody watching would agree the team deserved to get something out of the game. With the work rate from the team, and the chances we are creating, I believe it will only be a matter of time before we will be challenging for the top spots in the league.
As you no doubt know, we have a lot of new faces at the club. As the season progresses I’m sure you will endeavour to get to meet them and also make them welcome. We will also feature the new players in the newsletter throughout the season, and of course we have the diehards still playing for the jersey which makes a great combination this year, of youth and experience.
My assistant Coach this year is Doug Chisholm who most of you already have the pleasure of knowing. I’ve worked with Dougie at senior level with Frankston Pines as well as State and Academy Level. Dougie is an asset to the club and will bring a wealth of knowledge, playing and coaching experience with him.
In the reserves we have Jimmy Stewart and Dave Reid coaching the team, they have a number of young players including 2 x 14yr olds; I believe the reserves are all about development. Through the season you will see some more young players perform.
The merge with Peninsula in my opinion secured the longevity of the club; we now have 26 junior teams to work with. We will be able to give the youngsters an opportunity to play in the state league with the club they started with, as a junior.
Last but not least I thank you for your support of the club. You don’t have to be on the committee to lend a hand just ASK.
I’m confident you will see a different team from the last few years; I hope we give you something to cheer about!!!

Today’s visitors are EASTERN LIONS and like our selves have had
ups and downs. I remember some great games against WAVERLEY CITY while
I played for FRANKSTON CITY they then became OLD SCOTCH WAVERLEY then
EASTERN LIONS last year was not their year and they joined us in Division
three. We welcome all associates with their club here today.
I have listed in the programme GEORGE HUGHES current first team squad.
PHIL DOBBIN has come up with the idea of listing the players playing
on the day on a sheet pinned to the club rooms. Unfortunately when the
programme enters production we just can not list the first team players
on the day so please search for the sheet.
It has become apparent that each season we seem to retain only half
of the previous year’s squad, and many new faces have appeared
so for everyone watching it is “who’s that” and whats
number 10’s name, so PHIL’S plan sounds plausible.
It is good to see BILLY RAE going well at SEAFORD a great guy who had
taken on a huge task, noticed that DIDIER, SERGE, GABBY had scored the
other week and of course all played for us last year.
I would like to mention that despite leaving the club SERGE has stuck
by our club and become a major sponsor.
While on sponsors I like I do each season point out the importance of
our sponsors if you stick by them they will stick by us, it is up to
everyone in the club to frequent their business.
The FRANKSTON RSL has also joined the club as a major sponsor A great
achievement to get. A wonderful association
We hope to organise groups to attend the RSL when they have entertainment
such as BABBA.

followed by the big screen showing of the F.A.CUP

It is good to see both ROBBIE CURRIE and GRAHAM WRIGHT back on the field
after missing all of last year. They have both come through pre season
training and the first home fixture with no after effects.
Unfortunately the same can not be said for GREG KILNER who has a knee
injury which will rule him out for this season.
In the wars too PAT McGEOGH like LEIGH WILKINSON returning to the club
this season after trips to the old dart it seems PAT had an accident
on the bay badly damaging his arm.
Have to apologise to MARCUS KRAUSE who joined us from LANGY, in a moment
of shear madness I had his father DIETER in joining the team, MARCUS
was originally a junior at the club

LEAH recently had an appendix op and is still not fully fit.

BAYSIDE NEWS
Tomorrow sees the start of the BAYSIDE LEAGUE SEASON the FILLIES kick
off at 11am followed by the boys at 1pm and 3pm. Since the last home
programme the “A” squad have won both cup matches away 4-0
at MONTROSE and away 4-0 at PARKMORE. The “B” squad also
beat MONTROSE 5-2 but lost 3-0 to PARKMORE. So the cup rounds had the
“A” side on top of their ladder going through to the next
round while the “B” side will have to wait to see if they
are one of the best losers.
The FILLIES have played a couple of friendly games beating WESTERN PORT
2-1 and last week against ROSEBUD no result available.
The really good news is that BROOKE CARROLL has been having trials for
VICTORIA u 19’s squad and things are looking good for her. She
is a top goal keeper.
TOM MARSHALL is coaching the boys this season he has plenty of good
ideas and is a very big asset to the club.
This week Strikers played Sandringham City away we had the majority
of the game with Simon O'Donnell (this was Simon's second game in the
1sts he played his 1st game way back in 1996, he has though played 18
Reserves game in 1996 & 1997, scoring 14 goals in '96 and 3 goals
in '97, in '96 he also got 3 yellow cards also, welcome back Simon)
scoring a well taken goal, but in a hard fought game we lost 2-1, the
Reserves also lost 4-1 goal scorers to come.

It's Ash Hupe, all the way down from England..
M y trials haven't worked out yet coz Plymouth were still in the FA
cup but they have told me to come back when the season has finished,
so i'll be staying till about September now..
I saw your results and it looks like the 1st's have gotten off to a
good start.

I' m staying down in a tiny little place on the beach called Looe and
I'm working in a pub everyday so its not too bad here..

We wish Pat McGeogh a speady recovery after a wake board accident on
Friday where he tore his bicep muscle, he spent most of Friday Night
and his weekend in Frankston Hospital but is on the mend. (Photos to
come) He will have an MRI scan to see what the full damage is, hopefully
it isn't as bad as his wife Mel says and he will be back on the field
soon.
Another injury to a newly signed Striker was that of Greg Kilner who
needs a knee reconstruction and who will be out for the year.
Another player missing from the weekend was Simon O'Donnell who is overseas
on work committments.
In the first game of the season at our new home ground
and in the rain, the Strikers came up against a strong Endeavour United
(who finished 8th last season).
In a hard fought first half the game tossed and turned from one half
to the other. Both teams had some good shots at the goal but the ball
either went wide or was saved by the keeper. The score at half time
was 0-0. It was great to see Tony Hall out there in the rain at half
time re-marking the ground after the referees request because the lines
just couldn't be seen.
The Strikers came out strong in the second half and within the first
5 minutes Micky Moore got the ball at the top of the box and slotted
it into the top right hand corner. Both teams pushed forward after this
with the Strikers hitting the cross bar late in the half. In the end
the Strikers came out triumphant in their first outing for the year.
With the final score being 1-0.
It was great to see a strong crowd watching the game from both the fences
and under the veranda of the clubrooms.
The move to back to Ballam Park was very sentimental to some of the
old supporters who used to visit the ground week in week out when Karingal
United used to play at the venue.
The Reserves suffered a 5 nil defeat, but despite the scoreline a very
young reserve squad was very competitive, I'm sure that after a few
games together the results will change.
Next week we play Sandringham City away so get along and support the
boys.

Welcome to a new season of soccer at Strikers.
So the round ball game has returned to BALLAM PARK, nostalgic memories for those associated with the old Karingal Soccer Club.
Due to the drought work has had to carried out on the McClelland Drive complex therefore making it unplayable for season 2007.
We appreciate the Long Island Cricket Club together with the FRANKSTON CITY COUNCIL in approving soccer on their new one year old ground.
Our club has fought hard over the past few years in staying solvent and hanging onto our status in division three.
Having to move grounds has not improved the situation; we shall have to maintain both complexes this year, which will undoubtedly cause a big drain on the club.
We urge you to assist by becoming members and if you can help out in the background the club would be only to glad to hear from you.
The biggest and best news for the club is our link-merger if you like with the Peninsula Junior Soccer Club. The move will ensure a continued flow of players from junior to senior ranks for years to come. 60% of our junior section have remained loyal to our club and will play at Delacombe Park from now on.
We welcome the BAYSIDE Peninsula sides into the senior section and trust they enjoy their soccer initially at BALLAM PARK then CENTENARY PARK.
We also hope to see short games played at half time during first team games with the young juniors showing us their talents, all part of integrating the two clubs.
What does 2007 hold for us? George Hughes and Doug Chisholm have assembled what we hope is a far stronger, more competitive team than last year. Friendly games have given us mixed results, the latest a 2-0 loss for the first XI and 2-2 for the reserves vs. Pines last weekend.
Some new faces you will see at Strikers this season are GREG KILNER, SIMON O’DONNELL, MARCUS KRAUSE and JAMIE SKELLY all from our neighbours LANGWARRIN.
In the next home programme we shall list the full squad for the start of 2007.
Despite the move Ann Lee and her staff assure me they will give you all a great standard in food choice in their new canteen, and not forgetting Clayton (MR STRIKER) behind the bar for your beverage needs.

BAYSIDE NEWS
The integration of the two clubs has made it possible to field two male sides in BAYSIDE this season. The OUTLAWS side has finally been rounded up but paroled to play as Peninsula STRIKERS in the BAYSIDE PREMIER league and in the PREMIER reserves.
It will be like old times to have ROSEBUD, HAMPTON PARK etc visiting Strikers. The FILLIES are raring to go; they start their season in early MAY.
Meanwhile the men’s BAYSIDE teams’ season is already underway by way of the BAYSIDE CUP with four teams in ten groups; the top in each group go on together with the six best losers.
In the first round last week both teams drawn in different groups had a win and a draw with a bad start.
JUNIOR NEWS
DELACOMBE PARK is now home to all our juniors, they
range from U6’s to U18’s boys and girls, in years to come
we hope to be able to play some of their games (in the older age groups)
at McClelland Drive. The idea being that they are introduced to their
future playing home in senior ranks.
Peninsula Strikers kick of the 2007 season this week 21st April at home
(Ballam Park) against Endeavour United, Reserves 1pm and 1sts 3pm. Come
and support the boys at the new ground.

Frankston Strikers play Frankston Pines this Saturday 14/4 at Frankston Pines Res 1pm, 1sts 3pm
Last weekend both the firsts and the seconds had work
out games against Dandenong Sparrows the first eleven had a very good
win 7-0. The reserves also won 3-1.
The squad also played Berwick Kings the 1st eleven won 2-1 and the Reserves
lost 2-1.
The team contained three 14 year players whom all showed good form and
were not concerned about older opposition.
The Frankston Fillies played against Frankston Pines in the annual Bayside
Fund Raiser Day for cancer research. It was a close game and both teams
set the stage for the day’s event. A late gaol to Pines saw them
win the charity shield.
The McClelland Drive ground will definitely be unavailable for football
this season when it starts. The ground has been deemed unplayable and
closed for major or works by the council. This means that the club will
be relocated for the season and there is a strong possibility that football
will return to Ballam Park playing on the reconstructed ground now used
by the Long Island Cricket Club.
The club is awaiting a final answer on this from the council.
The VFF season is now due to start on the 21st April but please keep
up to date with this on our website. Meanwhile the Bayside League is
still hoping to start on the 15th April.
I just looked on the FFV Website and it seems that the fixtures are
exactly the same except that they have put Round 1 on the 11th June
(Queen’s Birthday Holiday), so the league will start off from
Round 2.

Frankston Strikers is planning a 30th reunion of all
past Skye Rovers/Frankston United players, more details to follow.

The club have manage to play two practice games in
difficult conditions to say the least. The first game against Dandenong
Thunder with many potential first team players unable to make the kick
off time due to the game being played on the other side of Melbourne
at Preston.
The result of the game was a loss for us.
In order to get a team bonding, Coach George Hughes arranged a game
and a weekend away at country Shepparton. Everybody enjoyed the time
away and the result proved also good for us winning an entertaining
game.
Over the past few months talks have been going on between Peninsula
Junior Football Club over a joint venture, this would benefit both clubs.
At this point in time both clubs will have extraordinary meetings to
pass the merger. Already the name of the club has been discussed as
also Club colours and more will be revealed at a future date.
As yet no fixtures have been released, when they do get released I will
put them on the website.

The drought is still with us however the VFF have given
our league a starting date of April 14th for the first competition games
of season 2007.
Again this is all subject to ground situations. Some encouraging news
for the club from Frankston City Council is that they are going to sow
our ground with a summer seed which will be drought tolerant this will
be happening possibly next week.
The Council will then have to get permission to water the ground in
order to bring it back to a playing situation.
While all this has been happening the squad under George Hughes and
Doug Chisholm had been training at the synthetic service at the Monash
Campus in Frankston and have been varying the second nights training
sometimes at the gym beach or wherever a suitable venue can be found.
George reports the squad is coming together but due to the uncertainty
of the start to the season players have not yet been signed.
The club has finished the renovations to the toilets bringing them up
to 100% condition. A working bee will be held to carry out necessary
jobs around the club house and to the dressing rooms.
The Frankston Fillies have started to train on Mondays and Wednesdays
and it is encouraging to see all of last years team return and several
new faces have also attended training. It is anticipated that the clubs
men’s Sunday team The Outlaws will shortly start training. They
are seeking new players please contact the club if you are interested

A Message From Terry Allsopp
Thank you so much for the kind words of support, and get well wishes,
whilst I have been hospital, hopefully I will be up and about soon,
and will present myself at the club to cop the usual abuse from Alex
Rae and Joe Donaghy.

The club would like to send its best wishes to Terry
Allsopp.
Terry is is hospital at present in Melbourne and we would all like to
wish him a speedy recovery.
Will we or won't we?
That is the big question that is effecting all winter sport at the moment.
The drought has really hit all sporting grounds no watering is allowed,
and as a result all grounds including ours are looking very dry and
hay coloured.
Frankston council will obviously have to make a decision probably like
every other council in the Metropolitan Area as to whether any matches
will be played when the season starts.
Despite this training begins this week and new players are welcome to
attend.

Frankston Striker Soccer club are pleased to announce
that Doug Chisholm has accepted the assistant coaching position at Strikers
for season 2007.
Doug is well known on the Peninsula and brings a wealth of experience
to the club.

Joe Donaghy Jr is off to Malaysia this week the club would like to wish
both him and the other Victorian under 16's all the very best in their
tournament.
Ashley Hupe will also be off soon for goal keeping trials for Werder
Bremen in Germany and Plymouth Argyle in the UK, again we wish him all
the best.
Frankston Fillies need more girl soccer players for the adult Sunday
competition if all goes well the club will field two teams this coming
season.
At Strikers first committee meeting of the new committee, everybody
was very positive about our chances for next season,
A few months ago two of our club room toilets were completely refurbished
and early in the new year the remaining two will also be completed.
This will make them more brighter.
Training for senior players will start on December 12th, the drought
is so bad that Frankston Council have advised the club that we can not
use our ground until February 1st for our seniors and March 1st Juniors.
The club is working in liaison with the council over other grounds that
we might use.
Billy Rae assistant coach has taken the coaching position at Seaford
and leaves with the clubs blessing. We wish him all the best in his
new position and hope that he can lift Seaford out of their present
troubles.
