Langwarrin 0 vs Frankston Strikers 0

Walking away from Lawton Park on the weekend, there was no way I was going to write a match report. But after watching Channel 31s coverage last night and seeing first hand what a wonderful job the editing department does at a TV station, the game looked half decent. A cut here and splice there, and look what happened, the Langy versus Frankston Strikers game looked like a decent one; those of us that watched it firsthand, what tell the rest of the world what the real story was.

Basically the lads fought out a 0-0 draw against local rivals The Strikers. The game was pretty scrapping overall, however there was one blessing for us spectators, Blacky was out injured and we didn't have to suffer watching him moan and crawl around the centre circle (just kidding Blacky, we do love you).

First half: Langy were second to the ball and The Strikers had a couple of half chances. The Kaiser wasn't really troubled, but the tempo of the game seemed off. Spaceman nutmegged Jamie Stewart (who must be commended for playing 135 minutes of soccer on the weekend), but found man of the match Chris Jones at his feet to turn the ball around for corner. Nothing much else really happened, apart from Langy shoting at goals and Jones either saving them or the shots going wide.

Half time: Robbo to the rescue, snakes and lots of them. Would they do the trick?

Second half: Langy, after a stripping down by Fidel Macleod, came out with the right intensity. Frankston had one shot of goals late in the half and I've run out of fingers and toes to count the chances that fell to Langwarrin in the second half. Special mention; Forest for his bicycle kick that just went wide, Macca for a sensation volley that Jonesy turned away (world class save), Mini Me low effort from the edge of the box (Jonesy turned that one away too), Maccas one-on-one that bobbled and went wide, Lewies turn inside the six yard box and then scuff shot and the list goes on!!!!

Not much else to say on Sponsors Day. Frankston need to be commended on the way they hung in there in the second half; all year we have seen our lads do the same to other teams. Langy will really have to pick up their game if they are going to do a job on Kingston next week, in what is shaping up as the game of the year.

One final note, special congrats to Gary Brisbane for completing his comeback and putting in a solid first half. Well done.
