Peninsula Strikers versus Monash University
Result: 0:0 draw

Peninsula Strikers and Monash University have been vying for the top
position on the ladder for some weeks and this game was touted as the
contest of the season. Matches played at Monash usually take place at 11.00
am, so this was quite challenging for our team as it was preceded by the
winter ball where drinks were either inclusive or priced to seduce the most
conscientious of objectors!

Due to unprecedented clashes in strips for the club, Peninsula Strikers
conceded to play in yellow socks while Monash donned its away strip to avoid
any issues.

Peninsula won the toss of the coin and elected to play with the wind. We
had numerous thwarted attempts at goal and at half time, Monash players
could be heard saying they thought the advantage had been wasted. When play
resumed, it was Peninsula Strikers that dominated against the wind with the
majority of play in our scoring zone. The result does not reflect how well
our boys defended our goals, nor the impetus to break the goal drought.

Both Shaq Alkan and Druian Woodward were sidelined by aggressive tackles
that may see them out for multiple games. We have had the misfortune to
fall victim to poor decisions on the part of the referee, but nothing
compared with the number of flouted handball and deliberate hacking
incidents that plagued the game.

So, in essence, Monash remains within striking distance on the ladder with
three more rounds to play - concluding with Monash versus Peninsula Strikers
on 15 September 2013.
