Round 13, Sunday 28 July 2013 3.00 pm Centenary Park Peninsula Strikers versus Beaumaris Result: 3:1 win to Peninsula Strikers Goal scorers: Scott McKinney, Druian Woodward and Craig McKinney
This week’s game looked set to be a stroll in the park for Peninsula, but it was not to be. The line up for Beaumaris differed dramatically from its previous team only three weeks ago and when the first goal was scored by Beaumaris, the boot certainly looked like it was on the other foot. (Pardon the pun!) It didn’t help that training did not take place earlier in the week when all eyes were on the Liverpool versus Melbourne Victory game at the MCG.
Despite the looming downpour and the rapidly diminishing light, Lewis Walker pulled the game of the season out of his hat and dominated the match consistently. Aaron Vega also featured prominently as sweeper, a position he does not relish yet performs with great talent each week. The superb goal by Druian Woodward seemed to even take him by surprise!
Before we knew it, some of the great passes we’ve witnessed in the last few games came into play and the match finished at 3:1; a victory to Peninsula Strikers that should bolster us into top position on the ladder.
There is quite a bit of travel to follow the bye next week and the
competition will be relentless, but if the last five weeks’ wins
provide any indication, there will be much to look forward to by players
and supporters alike. |
