Peninsula Strikers versus Skye United

Result: 8:1 win to Peninsula Strikers

Goal scorers: George Katergaris, Scott McKinney, Matt Syle, Tyrone Donnelly, Anders Jaeger (2) and Robert Miscamble (2)

There were some reservations as to whether today’s game would be played after the torrential rains that washed out two games yesterday, but the pitch was in fairly good condition with minimal maintenance required to allow the game to proceed.

With eight players down for Skye United, the team presented with quite a few recruits from the Reserves and Seniors and they looked ominous from the outset but the match proved to be more one sided with goals to Peninsula at the four minute, seven minute and 39 minute marks. This gave the boys a well-earned boost by half time when the score reached 3:1.

The full width of the pitch was used to make some fantastic team passes that effortlessly pounded the Skye keeper to reach a full time score of 8:1 in favour of Peninsula Strikers. The final three goals were kicked in rapid succession at 81, 86 and 87 minute marks. This places our team second on the ladder.

There were so many brilliant plays that it is difficult to draw highlights. Suffice to say Peninsula Strikers Men’s Metro Div 6 South players exceeded expectations, much to the delight of their families and friends.

The game was only marred by the frustration of mounting goals against Skye, resulting in one red and one yellow punitive cards being issued to Skye. We received one yellow card.
