Round 11, Sunday 14 July 2013
3.00 pm
Centenary Park
Peninsula Strikers versus Pakenham
Result: 2:1 win to Peninsula Strikers
Goal scorer: Tyrone Donnelly, Lewis Walker

This week the boys all wore black armbands to honour the memory of Dermot
O'Toole, who died as a result of a bungled hold up of his Jewellery shop
late Friday afternoon. Rest in Peace.

The game started late because the Pakenham team had to return to their club
rooms to retrieve their forgotten strips. Unfortunately when they did
arrive, the referee opted to cancel the game as both teams were wearing blue
and yellow. As a gesture of goodwill, Peninsula Strikers offered to play in
its away strip to ensure the game went ahead.

Pakenham scored at the 17th minute mark which triggered despondency in our
team that was difficult to overcome given some blatant poor calls by the
referee. It didn't help that we had numerous shots at goal that were
consistently saved by Pakenham's keeper.

After the half time break and a reminder to stick to the game plan by the
coach, Peninsula played the way we have become accustomed to watching. What
was also so pleasing to the coach was that the team did not give up and kept
going with a never say die attitude until the last whistle which finally
gave them the win. Anders Jaeger, Robert Miscamble and Aaron Vega put in
solid performances and Harry Johnstone collided with an opposition player
resulting in a shin guard being broken in half and the opposition player
benched for the remainder of the game.

It was not until the 78th and 87th minutes respectively that two fumbled
saves gave Tyrone Donnelly and Lewis Walker chances to dribble the ball past
the keeper for a 2:1 win for Peninsula Strikers.
