PENINSULA STRIKERS NEWS / UPCOMING EVENTS
Welcome to the new players & supporters at the club, we hope you enjoy yourselves at Peninsula Strikers this season & beyond. Soccer / Mirabella Cup Monday's draw of the Mirabella Cup, Round 2 was telecast live on the FFV website - Peninsula Strikers will be at home this weekend Saturday 27th Kick Off at 12 noon. We have drawn old arch enemies Frankston Pines. DON'T MISS THIS ONE, THE 1st LOCAL DERBY FOR THE SEASON. Come on down & show your support for your club and our teams. Saturday we will be supported by our juniors, when are U11s will be the club mascots for the day. Last Saturday - Peninsula Strikers played Round 1 of the old Docherty Cup renamed the Mirabella Cup. Our opponents where Old Haileybury our Senior team displaying some excellent football. Peninsula Seniors saw some old stalwarts of the club Cookie & even Piercey opening there scoring tally for the season early on, seeing the strikers 2 up in the first 5 minutes. Theo also found the net in the first half seeing our lads hold a comfortable lead at half time 3 - 0. In the second half young Matt Wilson found the back of the net along with Murat & a new addition to the club, Gerard Lawler. It’s great to kick off the season with a solid and well deserved win 6 – 0 without getting carried away with things as its early days. Well done to Jordan Ballerini, Kristin Miller & Matt Wilson who showed why they will be hard to leave out of our Senior squad should they remain fit & injury free throughout the season, giving new coach Billy Wright & his coaching staff plenty to think about, with Robbie Currie, Gary Hughes still unable to play at the moment though, both have commenced light training. While the team is off to a good start at the commencement of competition rounds seeing all players working very hard to get off to a good start, when the real season begins Saturday week. Our coaching staff has been working hard to bring in some exciting young talent to the club. We are pushing towards a successful season throughout the year & within the club. Our reserves played a practice match Vs. Brandon Park - Our Reserves also showed some good football at times giving both Dave & Jimmy plenty of optimism that they will be a force again this season, with an impressive 6 - 1 win. Seb Lorenzo and brother Marty showed there experience in the backline & were solid throughout the day & whilst they continue to get fit for the season they definitely didn't show it. We also saw young Davey Jones return from injury with 2 excellent goals & while he would admit it should have been more, he wouldn't be too disappointed after only returning to training last week. Our combination of Gabby & Davey's speed up front showed again why they will torment many clubs defences this season. Al Wallace whilst still struggling for fitness showed he is again keen as mustard to provide good balls for his team mates to score. There were many positive's to take out of the game with new members in the team playing good positive roles throughout the day, keep it up lads, it great to have you with the club. I thought you all played well showing some good football & good one touch football by young Joel Wilson, keep it up. Just a reminder to all members, registration is now due. If you would like to pay by electronic transfer see details in golf club section of this newsletter. Bayside League Teams - Our club has entered both a ladies team to be coached by Terry Smith & a Veterans team to be run by Steve Keenan. Both teams currently train Wednesday nights & will play on a Sunday at 11am & 1pm respectively. Both team season commence on Sunday 10th April & will play away with their first home game on Sunday 17th April, come down & support both teams as they will yours. While numbers have been encouraging for both teams, we are still looking for players, so if you are interested in playing, contact Terry Smith - 0418382470 or Veterans Steve Keenan - 0414803526. Just a reminder, that your Registration is now due. If you would like to pay by electronic transfer see details in golf club section of this newsletter. Ladies / Fillies Team - Our Fillies will be hoping to go one better this season after being runners up in both the League & Cup last season. Special mention goes to Tegan Horvat who won golden boot for the ladies team & Bayside competition last season, Well done Tegan we hope you have your golden boots on again this season. Also congratulations to Caroline Askew being name captain for the 2011 season. Veteran's Team - After a couple of season of not being able to enter a team into the Veteran's competition of the Bayside league, the club is excited about being able to do so this season, Steve good luck for the season to you & the team. U18s - As most of you would be aware we have entered 2 teams in to the FFV competition this season. Current numbers of U18s are 26 & we would like 30 players in total. At this point I will say we need & will depend on 2 things, firstly a parent to coach the 2nd team on a Sunday & for a parent to step up and manage each of these teams. Unfortunately if we are unable to find someone we will only be able to have one team, seeing some very disappointed lads & we wouldn't like this to occur. So if you are interested in either coaching or managing our U18s lead by Dave McKinney, please give him a call on 0408995951. Our U18s are an important and integral part of the club as there junior playing days come to an end, seeing them on the verge of Senior team football in some capacity either this season or next, lads remember our coaching staff will at times be looking for players who are ready for seniors teams selection so continue to train & play good football & enjoy yourselves throughout the season, your time will come, be patient. Our U18 will train Tuesday & Thursday night at Delacombe Park from 7:30pm due to insufficient space for them to train at the Seniors venue. We thank Rob Harrington, President of the Junior's for working with us & accommodating these teams. McClelland Golf Club - A reminder for members of the Golf Club your next game is Easter Sunday 24th April at Cape Shank please inform Billy of your availability for this date. Also a reminder that your Club registration is due, if you would like to pay via Electronic transfer prior to the 24th you can do so by depositing funds into the club Account direct: ANZ Bank BSB:013 494 Account No: 1006 21 437 1006 21 437 Name: Peninsula Strikers Football Club, please ensure your name is placed on the transfer of funds. New Items & changes this season Your Club have invested in a couple of new items for your enjoyment - We have purchased a FUSBAL & TABLE TENNIS tables. They are for everyone's enjoyment along with the pool table, please asks at the bar for balls, net & other items. All we ask is that you leave your driver’s licence or a $20 deposit this is to ensure all items are returned for the next person to use and enjoy. Matchday’s- Something New As of our 2nd home game, Saturday 23April the club will trial $10 meals commencing from 5:30pm - 7:30pm, there will be the choice of 5 meals. Proposed is Fish n Chip with salad, Lasagna chips n salad, Steak Sandwich chip n salad, Parma chips n salad with another to be decided. We will also be looking at a couple of options for the kids. We are looking at a live band / music, we hope that players, supporters, parents and your friends include people from other clubs may also utilise our club for getting together, creating a fantastic club atmosphere. Please consider taking advantage of this opportunity & look at staying or getting back to the club & enjoy yourselves. Cooking will be undertaken by a chef from one of our sponsors Coopers Patisserie & not a member of the committee. Up Coming Events: An Over 35s night with live band commences on Friday 1st April at our club. This is run & organised by Adam (Poodle) & Karen for all people in this age group. The Band for the first night is "23 RED" with a cover charge of $10, commencing at 7pm. The band will be different each month with the following date being Friday 29Apr11, so mark this on your calendar. A bus will also be available to ferry those of you in the local area @ $5 p/head, subject to distance. You can pre order tickets via nitetime35_s@hotmail.com or you can purchase tickets at the door, subject to available, don't be disappointed & miss out on this great night out. There is much interest in this so don't be disappointed. Sponsors: As you would appreciate sponsors are hard to come by at any time & we ask that you our players & supporters use the club sponsors where possible who support you & the club each year. We once again, Thank, Berettas Hotel Langwarrin for being our major sponsor together with Coopers Patisserie, Eview Property Real Estate Partners, Frankston RSL, Adian Graham Quarries / Two Bays Garden Supplies, Fountain Gate Bingo, Frankston Toyota, Vespers Restaurant, Seaford Clothing, Doyle's, D&G Printing, Towerhill Newsagency & Ready Roast. If you know anyone who would like to become a sponsor of the club please speak with Chopper or call me on 0403337988. Would you like to help? You don't have to commit to the committee or do hours upon hours of work; just a little help here and there would make a difference especially on matchday. If you feel you could assist, maybe hours in the canteen, put nets up or takes them down, washes a strip during the week or something else that you feel you can offer, speak to anyone on the committee & lets us know. Juniors / Seniors Clubs: After 3 years working with the Juniors Coaching & being on the Junior committee, I am excited that both clubs continue to work close together. As you may be aware both clubs finances are separate, however the camaraderie & commitment between both clubs continues to grow, this means that across the board Peninsula Strikers will only get stronger & be a force in football. At present we have many of U15 & 16 training under our senior coaches, gaining valuable experience which will hold then in good stead for the upcoming season & hopefully win the S/E competition as last season’s U16 did. As mentioned above, we have entered two U18 teams for this season while still classed as Juniors by the FFV they will again play under the Senior arm of the club & play at the seniors ground at 3pm on a Sunday, with the time for the other team yet to be finalised. This initiative commenced last year & strengthens our seniors’ teams with those 18s on the verge of senior selection for this season or next. We currently have the U11s being coached by Drew Read, one of our senior players this season, "Well Done Drew" having there trials at the seniors ground. This team will also be mascots for this Saturdays Mirabella Cup match against Frankston Pines. This is a great opportunity & is also exciting for these buddy young footballer’s who get a real buzz out of this. Seniors will provide a hot dog and a drink as we did last season for all juniors who are mascots for home games on matchday throughout the season. Also this season due to the expansion of the juniors, U6&7s will train at the senior training park to allow others teams to utilise Delacombe park. I would like to thank all at the juniors for your support for 2011 & would like to thank both Rob Harrington & Kathy Sipcic for your help with registrations of our U18s & other teams in preparation for the season ahead. I hope this information about the club helps & gives a better understanding of what’s going on around your club. Help & enjoy the club, after all, it's your club you all help to make it, what it is. Please enjoy & respect it & each other after all we are all players’ spectators & volunteers.
