Peninsula Strikers Bayside 2008

Pre- Season training for the bayside Teams starts this Wednesday 30th January at McClelland Drive starting at 7pm

With the decision to strip the three points Peninsula had originally won over Bayswater Strikers in round 18 it has meant that Peninsula has now finished in ninth place and in the relegation zone. The only chance now of Peninsula Strikers to compete in the Premier League is if a vacancy comes up. This could be the case if division 1 runners up Cerberus fails to come up with two teams.
This also means that Langwarrin will not be relegated after originally finishing in ninth place.
The importance of making sure that no players are permitted to participate on the field without a passport is evident in the decision. The message is clear to referees and clubs alike that no passport - no play.
If teams cannot field a full team a scratch match is permitted by the league on the condition it is accepted by the referee and participating clubs.

Strikers avoid relagation with a stunning 2-0 victory over ladder leaders Bayswater with goals from Daniel Condon and Jeremy Brodrick. The Reserves came close but went down 3-2 with goals from Duncan McRae and Brendan Eagle.

In a titatanic struggle it took penalties to decide the cup result against Westernport with unfortunately us going down 8-7. Mark Mills scored our 2 goals in the 1st 90 minutes.

So you must have heard about the free kick then, talk of the bayside league at the moment.
Down the right wing, outside the box, wall lines up 4 or 5 can’t remember (I was focused) cracked it outside of my right foot, stayed low and I mean low, poor keeper, he had no chance.

BAYSIDE NEWS
At the halfway point in the FILLIES competition was split into two sections in a similar fashion to the Scottish Premier League
The girls finished in the lower half of the league. However in the new competition set up they are confident they can do well.
Mean while the men’s first team are progressing well in the cup competition. In the last round they beat PHILLIP ISLAND 10-0
DANIEL CONDON doing a SIMON O’DONNELL in scoring five goals. In the next round they have been drawn at home against WESTERN PORT. Tomorrow all three teams are at home the first game starting at 11 am.

Congratulations to David Rosetto whose wife Fiona had a baby boy last Friday, welcome Callum David Rosetto. A future Striker.

The Reserves had a great 2-0 win over Langwarrin with goals by Andy Beasley and a penalty from Steve Balog.
The Firsts were 1 nil down early but managed to equalise from a penalty that was converted by Millsy. Towards the end of the half Langwarrin had a free kick and some how the ball went under goal keeper Steve Balog. A good even half though from both teams with 2-1 to Langy at half time.
Langwarrin came out strong in the second and scored 2 more goals all from corners (where was the marking boys) we managed to get one back through Johnny.
Next week we are away at Westernport a must win game to cement our spot in the division.

Wow, what a result for the team 10 - 0 against Phillip Island in the last 16 Round of the cup. I arrived about 30 minutes in and Daniel Condon had already scored his hat trick. Mark Mills scored the next with a great move down the left side, and then set up Dominique for the sides 5th. So it was 5-0 at half time. The second half saw Daniel score a quick goal, then Maxy came on and scored two goals, he had ample opportunities to score his hat trick but unfortunately he couldn't, so in disgust as a coach and for all the supporters who were laughing at the four chances he missed Tom benched him. Millsy came back on and scored his second and Daniel scored another to make it five for the game. Paul O'Reilly came on lasted about five minutes then was subbed due to arguing with the ref (how's your drink bottle Paul?), which bought Maxi back into the action, unfortunately he couldn't add to his tally so finsihed with two for the game. We played some great soccer right until the end, I might pay mention that Phillip Island didn't give up and fought the game out right up till the end.

Peninsula Strikers Bayside Senior Team Has Big Victory In FA Cup Match

Our Senior Bayside Team has progressed to the Quarter Finals of the FA Cup after a solid 10 – Nil victory over Phillip Island in Sunday’s round of 16 match.

In a very even team performance we proved what we are really capable of and there is still plenty of room for improvement. All players contributed very well to the victory, combining as a well oiled unit in a good display of team football with good passing and backing up. Tom Burgess shifted his team around like a master and went home satisfied with his team’s performance.

Daniel Condon was awesome with 5 goals, notching up some beauties. Other contributors to the impressive score line were Millsy with two great goals, Max Cooper 2 goals and one of our Dutch imports Dominic who notched up one. Our defense and mid field were strong all day. Great work boys!!

The Quarter Final is scheduled for August 26th which we will look forward to with great gusto.
In the meantime the Seniors and Reserves need to get a few more victories under their belts and push their way up the ladder. Next Sunday we take on Langwarrin at Ballam Park in Frankston - the Reserves kick off at 1.00pm and Seniors at 3.00pm – so come down if you want to see a couple of great matches.

Tom Burgess has got the Senior and Reserve squad bonding as a team and with a good blend of experience and youth things are coming together. One of Tom’s big pushes of “playing the ball in the direction you are facing” is starting to pay off, and with continued improvement in passing work who knows what we can achieve.

The Strikers this week came up against Boronia. The Reserves Team saw the welcome return of Laurence Hall, who started in the defence. We conceded an early goal from a corner, jump Tim, but got one back shortly afterwards. We kept pushing at goals but just couldn't penetrate, our defence held tight with some great saves by George in goals and Steve Murtagh, Laurence and Dave. Unfortunately for the team Laurence again did his groin 1 minute before the end of the first period and took no further part in the game. The score at half time 1-1.
The second half saw us push and push with Lee and Steve scoring great goals. Boronia struck back though and it looked as though they were going to out run us, But a great goals own goal from a corner by Ty probably sealed Boronia's fate, with Steve and Lee again scoring, to put the game well and truly out of Boronia's hands. A great result for the team, with the team song being sung loud and proud by all players (even if they didn't know the words)
The Firsts had a welcome return with Liam taking the field and it wasn't long before Daniel got onto the end of a ball to make it 1 - 0. We continued to attack and were rewarded by a second goal again from Daniel. Unfortunately I had to leave just before half time. So the result when I left was 2-0. Hopefully we could have kept up the tempo and have two great wins. Just got word from Dave that the Firsts won 3-0 with the final goal coming from Kameron Green.
Great work boys two great wins, hopefully this will keep the Phantom off our backs.

A disappointing weekend for the Strikers the Reserves suffered a 7-3 loss to Bayswater with goals from Steve Balog x 2 and Lee Winsor.
The Firsts lost Jose' before the game had even started because someone failed to pick up his passport from the Association (despite him playing last week without one (same referee too), (who is the team manager???)). We where down 6-1 when I left and I was on the bench and still couldn't get a game in this white wash. Daniel Condon scored our goal. The final score was 8-1. This is one game you wouldn't want to watch on You Tube.
Enough said, next week we are up against Croydon at Croydon, lets hope we can get our act together.

In a hard fought game both teams had many chances, Mark Mills scored our goal to make the final score 1-1.
Firsts
The firsts battled hard but 4 quick goals from mt Lilydale put the game out of our hands, Domonic and Mark Mills (the goal scoring machine) scored our goals.

Strikers V Parkmore
WOW two wins, great job boys, please email me the goals and a match report if someone has time.

Strikers V Rosebud
Strikers Reserves where down 1 nil within the first 2 minutes of the game, our luck didn't really change when Rosebud scored a second 5 minutes later. It wasn't until Steve Balog got us back in the game with a great goal, followed by Lee Winsor to put the score at 2 - 2, but Rosebud didn't lie down scoring their 3rd. 3-2 at half time.
Both teams came out strong in the second half with Rosebud again scoring first but Mark Mills wasn't going to let Rosebud have all the fun scoring two goals one from a penalty. 4-4 the score, Steve Balog had a great strike which looked to our players crossing the line but the linesman and referee thinking otherwise. So the score finished 4-4. Good to see Bruce Howden back playing, he played goal keeper his old stomping ground and pulled off some great saves in the second half. Also Brett Anderson an ex Karingal boy also playing for Rosebud.
The Firsts came out strong and played some great football Daniel Condon continued his great form and slotted the first goal. We held Rosebud and probably looked the better side until about three minutes to go in the first half where Rosebud had a corner and they scored their first by an uncontetsed header, and then 1 minute later another corner was awarded and again an uncontested header resulted in Rosebuds 2nd, minutes later Rosebud slotted their third from a great solo run by Pughey. So the score at half time 3-1 to Rosebud a scoreline which didn't really show the true game.
Unfortunately I left at half time, so I will have to wait for the score to be posted on the Bayside website to find out how the game finished up.
Unfortunately I checked the final result on the Bayside Website and the final score was a 7-2 loss, not too much more can be said.

Strikers V Hampton Park
What a day for the lads with only 6 seniors available for selection through injury (5), suspension (1) and holidays (3). Of the six one had no intention of playing due to ankle bashing from last week and another had surgery for a broken hand ten days ago. The side was then made up of guys who had played in the reserves. Terrific effort from everyone involved!
The game was a see - saw affair with Peninsula up in the first half and then Hampton running strong at the end. 1 - 1 was a good result for us and no doubt Hampton Park will be spewing to draw against us in the state we were in.

This weeks game saw the Strikers battle Westernport Wanderers at home. The Reserves suffered an early set back with an injury to Laurence Hall who was still suffering from his groin injury pulling out in the warm up. Maxy this week just played 1sts with Millsy and Steve also playing 1's. Anyway back to the game, we went down 1 nil early from a penalty, but we were able to equalise not to long later from a shot at goal by Lee Winsor which saw a deflection from a Westernport player (I'm sure Lee that the referee put this down as an own goal, but I'll give it to you.) Westernport continued to push though and from a corner got their second after it came off the crossbar and then was slotted in. Late in the half a handball in the box by Fred who got the ball blasted at him resulted in another penalty to Westernport's whose player made no mistake, so 1 - 3 at half time.
The second half continued in much the same spirit as the first with the Strikers trying to play some soccer by passing the ball around, but their last pass was the killer. We probably had the majority of the play similar to last week but just couldn't put the ball in the net. One must mention Westernport's keeper (old timer Will) who pulled off some fantastic saves, none better than a full stretch dive from a great shot by Lee Winsor in the first half. Finally a defensive error by Tim (just clear the ball away) resulted in their 4th.
In the end though it was a game we probably should have won but poor ball control and inaccurate passing really cost us. The boys still looking for their first win hope it will be next week against Hampton Park.
Good to see Dave Rossetto at the ground on the weekend I'm sure he is getting itchy feet, its only time Dave before you'll pull on your boots again.
The firsts still riddled with injuries, had a much stronger squad this week. In a tightly contested game the final score was 2 - 2 goal scorers to follow, since no-one emails me any information regarding the game.

Speaking to coach Tom during the Reserves game, he feels as do alot of other players, that we need a restructure of both teams with the Reserves and Firsts working together so that we can get our best 11 out on the park for the Firsts. How this will sit with the old Outlaw players who just come down for a kick will be a differeent story, but their are about 3 or 4 players who should really be playing in the Firsts each week. If we are to cement our spot in this Premier Division we need to have a good look at all our players.

The Firsts and Reserves came up against Langwarrin this week in the local derby. The Reserves started the game without passports and enough shirts for the team but eventually started the game. Both teams fought hard with the Strikers having the majority of the ball but just couldn't score. Langwarrin late in the game on a counter attack broke loose and slotted the ball pass emergency goalie Fred. The score at half time was 1-0. We thought we were still in the game but Langy got an early goal in the second half. An injury to key defender Laurence who got substituted, shook the backline up, and unfortunatey Langy scored two more goals to make the scorline 4 - 0 at the end. In a game where we had a lot of the play we just couldn't score. Hopefully next week at home against Westernport will be a different story.
The firsts on the other hand too were struggling for players with Tim who turned up too late to play in the Ressies, Maxy who sacrificed himself from the Ressies to play Firsts, Lee who had already put in a very hard game in the Ressies and Steve who had to play goal keeper because George rocked up late all having to start off in the Firsts due to unavailabilities and injuries. Despite this we did however fight really hard and despite having some good chances we and Langwarrin were unable to score resulting in a 0 - 0 draw.

Paul O'Riley Player Profile

Not a good start for the Strikers with the Ressies well and truly containing the game but 4 goals from Croydon sealed our fate.
The Firsts also got of to a bad start gong down 4 - 1 with our goal keeper Shaun Flynn having to go to hospital. We hope he is well.
If one of the players from either the 1sts or Reserves wants to provide a match report I will post it.

We traveled to Parkmore and the 1sts had the game delayed due to not having enough players, the missing players finally turned up and the game began, we got off the a great start with a good goal by Mark followed by a second from Ty, we where on the attack alot with Jeremey having a few great chances but just couldn't finish the ball, Jose' too had some great chances. So the score at half time was 2-0.
We came out in the second half as hard as the first with Jose' scoring a quick goal. Unfortunately for us though Paul was sent of for a second yellow. Jose' put the game out of Parkmore's hands by scoring the 4th. The final score 4-0. This result cements the 1sts on top of the ladder and through to the next round.

The Reserves playing Parkmore's A side fought hard all day but just couldn't put the ball in the back of the net. We conceded an early goal in the 1st half but were able to hold Parkmore for the rest of the half. So the score at half time was 1-0. Both teams came out strong in the second half and throwing caution to the cause, we pushed John forward therefore playing man on man at the back to see if we could score the equalizer, unfortunately for us Parkmore scored 2 more late goals to win 3-0. The result though was not a true indication of the game though with the Reserves having a lot of the play. The result probably puts the Reserves out of the cup competition.

Next week we play our first league game at home againt Croydon, Res 1pm and 1sts 3pm, get along to Ballam Park on Sunday to watch some entertaining soccer.

Unfortunately I was not able to attend the games on the weekend but by all reports we played some awesome football The Reserves played first scoring 5 great goals Mark Mills slotted 2, Avid, A.J and
Steve (Sturn) Balog all slotted 1 each. A great result for the boys.
The Firsts continued there great form by slotting 4 unanswered goals Daniel Condon and Jose continued there great form by slotting 1 more each while Paul and Jeremy scored the other two.
Next week we are up against Parkmore away again (the 1sts are playing Parkmore B at 1pm, while the Reserves are playing Parkmore A at 3pm).

Ambulance Membership Form

The new look Peninsula Strikers kicked off their new season on the new ground at Ballam Park. In front of a good crowd the Reserves were 1 nil down early against Boronia B after a penalty against Billy Thomas. We fought hard but just couldn't put the ball in the net, despite some really good chances. We finally scored with about 5 minutes to go from a shot from Billy Thomas. Although in the last 2 minutes of the half a defensive error from Laurence Hall resulted in a goal. So at half time it was 2-1 to Boronia.
The second half saw Boronia come out strong and slotted their 3rd. Unfortunately the Strikers had a man sent off 10 minutes in which sparked a fight back resulting in a good goal from Mark Mills (sorry). We pushed and pushed and held strong at the back despite some tired legs. We finally scored the equaliser from Steve Balog who unfortunately got injured and played no more part in the game.
Overall a good start from the Reserves against a very young and fit Boronia side.

The Firsts started strong against Boronia C and slotted an early goal, unfortunately though minutes later a Strikers player badly hurt his leg and an ambulance had to be called. While waiting for the ambulance another Strikers player clashed heads resulting in a bad cut on his head. He also had to see the medics in the ambulance. The firsts pushed on though and scored two more good goals. We held the rest of the game until half time. So the score at half time was 3-0 (unfortunately though I had to leave so don't know the final result, will update when known). It looks as though we continued to push on and slotted another 3 goals in the second half to win 6-0. Goal scorers to come. What a great result. Overall a great start for the new look Peninsula Strikers Bayside teams, with good support from family, friends and other supporters.
Next week we are away to Montrose.

Due to the merger of Frankston Strikers and the Peninsula Bayside teams we have had to drop 1 side the Division 1 side, as a result we will now be playing in the Premier Division in both Firsts and Reserves.
The first game for both of these teams will be this Saturday in the Cup against Boronia Colts and Barons at our new home ground for the season Ballam Park South (close to the houses). The Reserves kick off at 1pm and at this stage contain most of the old Outlaws players and the Firsts contain most of Peninsula's squad kick off at 3pm.
