Frankston Strikers 0 vs 1 Langwarrin

In near prefect conditions for football, Langy took on local rivals, Frankston Strikers at Centenary Park. With over night rain and more predicted, Langy were at least playing on a ground that was starting to take a stud. The Langy boys were over joyed at having the pleasure of experiencing the luxurious changing facilities on offer. No doubt the change rooms at Strikers are akin to the old fashioned thunder box, but only smaller!

With Mr Burns showing some wear'n'tear, Fidel Macleod made the single change by bringing Forest back in the line up after his return from Mars, to add some speed and a box of chocolates to the line up. The message before the game was simple, the Strikers will be up for the game, so Langy needed to be at our best to carve out a result.

The first half started without any great fanfare and Langy soon took advantage with some neat passing. Little Kilner and Valeree were getting to the ball and making the midfield a real contest, while Mini Me was putting himself about as well. No clothes lines this week from Pooley and Salva was doing well marking the dangerous Sushi of Strikers. Seeing the pairing of Barney and Forest up front was a sight for sore eyes for this supporter. But that was nothing when we realised who was marking Barney; Was that a Yowey playing at that back for Strikers?

Neither side really tested the keepers during most of the first half, with the Kaiser not having to make a save during the entire half. Barney had a off-balance header miss the target and Little Kilner bent a free kick too far, but the real chance for Langy to take the lead came a minute before half time when Forest received a ball just inside the attacking half and after turning his man, streaked into the Strikers box. Forest's speed deceived a Strikers defender, who miss timed his tackle and the referee pointed to the spot. Up steps Mini Me and the punt was on for which side the lad would place his ever reliable pen. Obviously Jonesy, the Strikers keeper, was in the know, guessing the right way and pulling off a great save.

Scores all level at half time. As there was no score, Robbo almost let the boys down. There was some absolute quality on the rub down table; rasberries, jelly babies, jelly beans, juicy fruits, you name it was there... EXCEPT, you guessed it, NO SNAKES. Fidel had to calm the lads down; especially Pooley. The young danger mouse was ranting and raving, or was that raving and raving.. not sure, we'll ask him later... either way, the self-confessed chunky, was seriously missing his snake fix; something about making sure that his belly didn't get any smaller, as he was too scared of what he would find if he could see his toes again!

No changes at half time and the Lads tried to push forward to get the opening goal. A great chance feel to Pooley, who some how managed to miss from three metres out after a great cross from Barney. Another chance fell to Barney and Valeree had a couple of long range efforts. With the growing frustration of not turning their possession into a goal advantage, Langy appeared to lose the plot for a little while. A great save from the Kaiser in a one-on-one and header off the line by Salva, stopped the Strikers taking the advantage. The Strikers had another chance when one of their forwards turned inside the box and flicked the ball fortunately over the bar. Gilligan, Golden Boy, Fred and Kaiser were generally solid at the back.

Almost against the run of play, Pooley picked up the ball in the middle of the park and found Mini Me running across the almost unbeatable Jones of the Strikers. Fair play to Mini Me, one touch, around Jonesy (no easy task, have you seen the size of his rear end lately) and into the back of the net. By the way, the website team want to comment on the celebrations; Mini Me sprints straight over to Fidel and plants a huge kiss on the Boss...QUALITY!!! Rachael is going to be asking questions!!!

The Lads locked it up for the remaining five minutes and 1-0 was probably a fair result when you consider the entire game. Another scrapping game with only patches of football played by both sides, but seven points from nine and we aren't complaining.

Special mention to young Christian Fernandez slotting in sensationally on the right flank. The young lad showed some real composure coming off the bench in a tight situation. Also, we should wish the Mullet a quick recovery after injuring himself in the warm-up (even Macca and Mr. Burns last longer than that).

Next week Kingston come down to Lawton Park, were no doubt another epic will unfold.

Langy old boy, Chris Traynor turned out for the Strikers, looking slightly different to what we are used too; He has gone down a size and only wears a "D" cup nowadays.
The ever reliable Neal Collier had his forgettable past on display late on Saturday night. Lets just thank the man above that the 80s are over and dodgy moes are gone forever (except on our illustrious President Wallace, of course).
Mini Me was in great form after the game explaining how good Chris Jones was in goals for the Strikers; he had to be, how else could he save the penalty??
There was a suggestion put forward after the game; a few of the lads want Jaap Jaap and Robbie to do the pre-match talks. Then no one will understand a word of what is said and they may follow Fidels instructions for awhile.
Is there a bigger moaner than Russell Black? AND what colour dye does he put through his hair?
